Elysium

In Camarilla society, a location of Elysium is a place for vampires to meet together without fear of harm. They are often cultural locations, such as opera houses, theaters or museums, areas of artistic or intellectual worth that promote calm reflection.   A location is designated Elysium by the Prince of the city. Prince Reinhold Fisher has currently designated three such places in Chicago:     Different Elysia in different cities may hold different traditions, but the one which is sacrosanct and universal is the strict prohibition against violence. Individuals are expected to keep tempers in check. Any grievances between vampires are to be left outside, and the Keeper of Elysium or the Sheriff will forcibly remove those who cannot control themselves if need be. While this provides opportunity for both neonates and elders to relax, social conflict is often at its peak and what happens in Elysium can easily lead to repercussions off ground.   Some Princes outlaw weapons at Elysium in order to discourage violence before it happens. In Chicago there is no such prohibition as long as the Masquerade is not at risk (decorative rapiers are a staple for some older Kindred; twin sawed-off shotguns strapped to the back are unacceptable).   Though Elysiums often serve as gathering places for kindred, the Masquerade must normally be maintained at all times for any mortals that may be around. Similarly, while refreshments are sometimes served, it is bad taste to come to Elysium hungry as it often leads to shorter tempers. Prince Fisher, like many other Princes, has forbidden hunting nearby; a concentrated population of vampires could easily result in a suspicious number of deaths in the area.   The Keeper of Elysium oversees the physical locations, arranging security, decor, refreshment, and entertainment as needed. He or she coordinates with Kindred who wish to host Elysium events but as a Court officer the Keeper always has the final say. In matters of Elysium his or her word even commands the Sheriff. Chicago's current officer is Keeper of Elysium Avery Winchell.
