The Dogpatch
The Dogpatch is the name given to an area of the Ladysmith Harbour that is home to a series of derelict seafaring vessels. While several vessels are considered to be unsafe and unsalvagable, there are a number of liveaboard vessels moored together in a sort of collective. The residents aboard these vessels are generally considered to be a part of Ladysmith's small-but-growing homeless population, and drug abuse is a common theme among residents.
For years, the municipal government has attempted to clean up or otherwise remove the Dogpatch, but recidivist dwellers of the Dogpatch often find themselves right back there once asked to move on due to the difficult in policing that area of open water.
In light of the Blacklight Event, the Ladysmith Emergency Committee has maintained the position that the Dogpatch is necessary for the continued safety and housing for the people of Ladysmith.
The Dogpatch can be seen clearly from Slag Point at the north end of Transfer Beach.
