Soza Mountains

The Pyiz Soza (Mountain Pond), or the Soza Mountains, is an elongated crescent-shaped ridge, the center of which curves around a great lake at the base and cradles a smaller crater lake above called Sozan Dema. Secured by the Soza tribe a few centuries ago, the land and water of the Pyiz Soza are carefully maintained. Soza Castle is perched above a shear cliff face, hanging over the high fish pond in the highlands. The castle is a hive-like structure with round turrets, visible from the lowlands on the south side of the range.

Localized Phenomena

Báv Pyiz, or mountain spirits, are believed to be the spirits of dead eyan women but are a species all their own. The mountain spirits are perceived by eyan senses as faint whisps of wind with airy voices. Most humans can't make out the whisps to see the spirits unless they drift in front of a bonfire. Both eyans and humans who encounter the spirits feel their strong touch, part physical and part telekinetic.

Climate

This subtropical temperate forest is home to rich ecosystems. Four seasons mark the temperature and weather changes through the year, with long spring and autumn seasons.

Lowlands are damp with deciduous trees, fruiting plants, tubers, fungi, grasses, grazing and hunting animals, amphibians, and insects. Midlands and mountainsides give way to conifer trees, windsnap trees, spotted goats, and other flora and fauna adapted to the steeper terrain.

In the central range, high winds and thinner air above 6000 meters mark a change in the mountain flora which leaves a distinct treeline. Smaller plants and sturdier animals live on the highlands and ridges. Dwarf dogwood, berry bushes, and conifer shrubs dot the highlands where the soil has settled among cliffs.
