Dragonborn

D&D Beyond: Dragonborn

Born of dragons, as their name proclaims, the dragonborn walk proudly through a world that greets them with fearful incomprehension. Shaped by draconic gods or the dragons themselves, dragonborn originally hatched from dragon eggs as a unique race, combining the best attributes of dragons and humanoids. Some dragonborn are faithful servants to true dragons, others form the ranks of soldiers in great wars, and still others find themselves adrift, with no clear calling in life.

Dragonborn Traits: Your draconic heritage manifests in a variety of traits you share with other dragonborn.

Ability Score Increase*: Your Strength score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.

*The altnernate rule for increasing ability scores found in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything is allowed -- take any ability score increase you gain in your race or subrace and apply it to an ability score of your choice. If you gain more than one increase, you can’t apply those increases to the same ability score, and you can’t increase a score above 20. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or Standard Array.

Languages: Your character can speak, read, and write Common and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character. The Player’s Handbook offers a list of languages to choose from. The DM is free to modify that list for a campaign.

Suggested languages: Common and Draconic.

Age: Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 80.

Creature Type: You are a Humanoid.

Size: Dragonborn are taller and heavier than humans, standing well over 6 feet tall and averaging almost 250 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Draconic Ancestry: You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table*. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table.

Breath Weapon: You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. *The information from the Player's Handbook regarding damage type and shape has been updated or replaced by the draconic ancestries as described in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons. See the individual articles for each Dragonborn sub-species listed below for details.

Damage Resistance: You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.

The following Draconic Ancestries exist in Chronala

Dragonborn are presented as a playable race in Player's Handbook and Fizban's Treasury of Dragons.
