Elves

The Elves of Cinder are a dying race. Their hearts are overcome with sorrow as the apex of their civilization has long past and the few remaining members have begun to slowly die off with no new births occurring. Elves are mostly found in the lands of The Broken Barony, seeking refuge in the untouched forests and ruins of their old world.

Elvish Themes

  • Grief. Being an elf means suffering from the world moving on without your people. The best years of your people are behind you, and forward lies only tragedy.
  • Loneliness. Being an elf means being alone. The number of your people dwindle by the day, and a family is something you can never have.
  • Knowledge. As one of the oldest of those who inhabit Cinder, you are among those most connected to the true nature of the world. Your knowledge and forethought exceeds most.

Elvish Languages

The primary language spoken by elves is Elvish.

Elves are the only people of Cinder whose affinity with the Fields of Ash is strong enough that they can perform feats of magic that other races cannot dream of. With this, their understanding of the workings of magic that "pervert" the world are significantly lacking.

The long lives of elves have allowed them to possess knowledge and wisdom surpassing that of the other people of Cinder.
  • Elves reach physical maturity near the age of 30 years, but are not considered to be adults and are not allowed to participate in the elven council until the age of 100. The average elf can live to 750 years of age, but some are rumored to have reached 1000.

Elves live among the forests of the world of Cinder and the dark ruins of their past civilizations. As thus, they have skills that complement this style of life.
  • Elves have darkvision out to 60ft, which allows you to see in dim light as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You cannot discern color in the darkness, only shades of gray.
  • You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
  • You have proficiency with the longsword, shortsword, shortbow, and longbow.
  • You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by foliage, heavy rain, falling snow, mist, and other natural phenomena.

  • Elves tend towards chaotic and good alignments, but the good to evil spectrum can vary widely.
Due to their connection to nature and their natural connection to the Fields of Ash, Elves possess special characteristics when it comes to resting and their interactions with magic.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can't put you to sleep.
  • You do not need to sleep. Instead, Elves fall into a sort of deep meditation for 4 hours a day, letting their consciousness be restored through the Fields of Ash. If you are in an area where the Fields of Ash have overcome the world, then you need not rest at all.
Elves believe their language to be the true language of the world, with other languages being crude approximations of coherent thought. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. A bard from the baronies makes sure to have at least one elven song or poem memorized, as their beauty can often bring a rowdy tavern to complete silence.
  • You can speak Elvish and Bremen.
