"Jeffries Manor holds the history of scandal and fortune, but I've chosen to carve my path away from the tangled webs of family drama. My struggles may not echo within those walls, but they're just as real."

I'd rather keep my personal life private. What can I say, Tasmania's a small place. Everybody seems to know everybody's business. But I fear that if I don't speak now, the world will never know that I ever existed.
I don't tell people much about my heritage, but suffice it to say, I am a descendant of William Jeffries Sr who arrived in Tasmania on a convict ship. My sister, Louise, and her family still live in the ridiculous mansion that William had built in Granton – Jeffries Manor, you might have heard of it. The place has a controversial past, but I try to keep myself out of all that nonsense. I have my own drama to deal with.
The Jeffries family history is a tapestry woven with the threads of scandal and fortune, and Jeffries Manor stands as a testament to both. The sprawling mansion has weathered the storms of time, carrying whispers of ancestral stories within its walls. As a descendant, I've kept my distance from the intricacies of family drama, preferring the solace of my own struggles to the tangled webs of Jeffries Manor's conspiratorial past.
My family lived on the mainland for a while when I was younger. We moved back to Tasmania not long after a serious incident left me almost drowning in the river. I've never forgotten, and I’ll never forgive Karl for it either. He was supposed to be my best friend.
I met my partner, Luke, at a health conference a little over ten years ago. It was one of those chance encounters that felt like destiny, a serendipitous moment that set the stage for a decade of shared laughter, adventures, and quiet moments that only the closest of couples share. From the beginning, our connection was palpable, a harmonious blend of personalities and interests that brought joy and stability to both our lives.
In the years that followed, Luke and I built a life together—a home, a family of sorts. We took the plunge into homeownership, creating a space that echoed with shared dreams and aspirations. Our two fur babies added warmth and playfulness to our days, their presence a testament to the love we poured into our little sanctuary. Amidst the responsibilities of work and the routines of daily life, we found moments of solace in each other's company.
Our professional lives flourished, with both of us navigating successful careers. The synergy we once revelled in seemed unbreakable, a bond that weathered the storms of time. However, as the pages of our shared history turned, the winds of change began to whisper. Over the last year, an invisible distance has crept into the spaces between us, casting shadows on the once-illuminated path we walked together.
The source of this rift eludes me, a puzzle with missing pieces that I struggle to piece together. The shared dreams that once fuelled our journey now seem distant, replaced by an unsettling quiet. It's a painful realisation, and I find myself standing at a crossroads, uncertain of how to bridge the growing gap. Last night, in a moment of weakness, I made a choice that threatens to unravel the fabric of our decade-long companionship.
Ben, an unexpected presence in our lives, became a fleeting escape from the complexities that had woven themselves into our relationship. The guilt that lingers in the aftermath is a heavy burden, a stark reminder of the fractures that have surfaced. I grapple with the aftermath of my actions, questioning whether this is a symptom of the deeper issues that plague us or a recklessness born out of a fleeting desire for something different.
As the foundation of our shared existence trembles, I stand on the precipice of an uncertain future. Can we mend what's broken, or are we destined to become casualties of the drift that has taken hold? The answers elude me, and the weight of our unraveling story bears down, leaving me to navigate the fragile space between regret and an uncharted tomorrow.
