Greetings! I'm Marika Bonn, and let me take you on a journey through my life. I'm a 48-year-old musician, deeply rooted in the magnificent Pacific Northwest. The lush forests and the enchanting city of Portland have been my home for many years, providing the backdrop to the story of my life.
I grew up in a small coastal town along the Oregon coast, surrounded by the briny scent of the sea and the haunting call of seagulls. The waves crashing on the shore were the rhythm that underscored my childhood. My parents were artists, and I was immersed in a world of creativity from an early age. Our love was the kind that inspired songs and poetry. Our daughters, Shawnee and Silenia, were born into this world of love and music. Shawnee, our eldest, was a natural musician from the moment she could pluck the strings of a guitar. My lullabies to her were the sweet melodies that fuelled her passion for music. Her soulful performances and heartfelt lyrics left me in awe, and I couldn't be prouder of the artist she had become.
Silenia, our youngest, was growing up with a musical legacy surrounding her. She admired her big sister and aspired to follow in her footsteps. The bond between our family was strong, and the music that filled our home brought us closer together.
One of the most significant moments in our family's journey was when Shawnee left for Vanderbilt University. It was there that she found love in Skender Bellamy. Their shared passion for music sparked a college romance that eventually blossomed into a deep, harmonious love story. It was heartwarming to see our family's love for music carry forward to the next generation.
While music has always been at the heart of my life, it wasn't the only note in my symphony. I've also been an avid gardener and a lover of nature. Our family embraced the great outdoors, whether it was hiking in the lush forests, fishing by a clear mountain stream, or camping under the starry sky. These moments in nature provided a counterpoint to the melodies of our lives.
Life has had its share of challenges, but my family and I have learned to face them with resilience and gratitude.
