Hello there! I'm Parley Bonn, and life has been an incredible journey. I'm 50 years young, and my roots run deep in the breathtaking Pacific Northwest. I've called Portland home for many years now, and it's here that my life's tapestry has been woven.
My journey started in a small, picturesque town nestled among the towering pines and mossy forests of the Pacific Northwest. It was a town where the rain kissed the earth more often than not, and the scent of pine needles filled the air. Growing up, I was surrounded by the lush landscapes and boundless natural wonders that have always defined this region. My parents, avid hikers and nature lovers, instilled in me a deep appreciation for the great outdoors. Our weekends were spent hiking the lush trails of Forest Park or fishing in the cool, clear waters of the Columbia River.
But my life took an even more significant turn when I met Marika, the love of my life. We met in college, and from that moment, I knew she was the melody to my song. Her mesmerising talent as a musician enchanted our family. Her soulful melodies and hauntingly beautiful voice could move mountains. I fell in love with her, not just for the music she created but for the beauty she brought to my life.
Music quickly became the backdrop to our lives. Marika's lullabies filled our home, and it was from those sweet, tender notes that our eldest daughter, Shawnee, found her passion for music. Shawnee, our talented 25-year-old daughter, inherited her mother's musical spirit. She would spend hours playing her acoustic guitar, crafting her own soul-stirring compositions. Her performances in local venues captivated the community with her heartfelt lyrics and melodic tunes. The music was a thread that connected generations in our family.
Our younger daughter, Silenia, was 17 years old, and she looked up to her big sister with admiration. Shawnee was not only a talented musician but also a dedicated big sister, always offering guidance and support as Silenia navigated the path to adulthood. The Bonn family bonds were strong, and it was this loving environment that nurtured the connection Shawnee found with Skender Bellamy during her time at Vanderbilt University. Their shared passion for music led to a college romance that evolved into a deep, harmonious love story.
In my professional life, I've worked in the telecommunications industry. I've seen the world go through an incredible digital transformation. My work allowed me to connect people and places, from bustling cities to remote mountain villages. But beyond the corporate world, my true joy lies in the art of brewing craft beers. My basement has been transformed into a cozy microbrewery, where I experiment with unique ingredients, creating distinct flavours that tell stories of our travels. The process of brewing, the careful selection of hops and grains, is a labor of love, just like the music in our family.
When I'm not brewing, you can find me exploring the great outdoors. Hiking, fishing, and camping are family traditions we hold dear. We cherish our time in nature, especially when we escape to our cabin by a serene mountain lake. The scent of pine, the sound of the wind in the trees, and the serenity of a mountain lake make the perfect backdrop for family adventures and bonding.
But I'm not just about the outdoors and brewing; I'm also a history enthusiast. I love digging into the fascinating stories of the past, whether it's exploring the history of the Pacific Northwest or discovering the tales of ancient civilisations. There's something magical about unraveling the mysteries of history and understanding how it shaped our world.
Life hasn't been without its challenges, but we've learned to embrace them with resilience and gratitude. Every day is a new opportunity to savour the beauty of life, surrounded by the love of my family and the wonders of the world. Life in the Pacific Northwest has been a journey of love, music, nature, and exploration, and I wouldn't have it any other way.
