Coia: 18 - Lenore Learns More

General Summary

Inside the large room upstairs, we find a large, athletic, battle-worm monk in a hooded cloak sitting at a table. Nym recognizes him as his old friend Soren Lorenson who he grew up with at the monastery in Durmchapel. Soren calmly explains to Nym that he had never meant to hurt him. One day when he was outside the monastery he’d seen some red cloaks torturing some of the monks and asking about an artifact called “the gate”. When they discovered him, they agreed to let him live if he helped steal the artifact for them. Abbot Dain had showed him how to access to the monastery from a cellar gate and so Soren showed them how to get in and helped them to steal the gate, believing it to be the only was they’d let him live. He claims he didn’t know they’d kill so many of the monks inside.   He says he was glad that Nym made it out, and knew he’d been looking for him. He knew that he’d almost caught up to them outside of Glastonwood a few years ago, and he’d ordered them to leave Nym alive when they left. Nym tries to persuade Soren to turn away from the dark side, throw down his light saber and tell him where to find the object he stole. But Soren replies that while he does have regrets, he has spent too long living and working with the Red Cloaks and is in too deep with the organization to leave. He signals his guard to attack and alerts the Red Cloaks below to come up to apprehend them.   Thinking quickly, either Sszarden or Zen fires a zipline arrow through an open window and the group begin to slide over to a nearby building to escape. Fighting off the bodyguard, Nym makes one last appeal to Soren whose fleeting glance at a chest in the corner peaks Nym’s interest. After the group knocks Soren and his bodyguard unconscious, Nym grabs the chest and the group ziplines out of the room just as the guards from downstairs burst in.   Realizing that Aveton is no longer safe, we head to the eastern part of town to find Gerhart Duskwood who runs a caravan and offers us passage to the next town to the east, Gaston. While in the caravan, we examine the box Nym took, realizing that it has something magical inside, but we’re unable to open it. After arriving in Gaston, we stay the night at the Whaling Cow before convincing Gerhart to wait for us for a day before continuing on to Hearth.

Into the Tree?

They must smoke some super strong shit at the Whaling Cow, because the next thing we know Moose introduces us to some guy Fred who take us to a tree that we walk inside only to come out in a battle arena. We meet a new guy Jared Leto who seems ok. After a few rounds of showmanship, we are rewarded with prizes:
  • Zen - Arrows of Walloping
  • Sszarden - Dragonwing Shortbow
  • Retta - extra spell slot
  • Emis - Grey bag of Tricks
  • Nym - Pariapt of Wound Closure
  • Leto - Clockwork Amulet
We are then told the story of the traveling band of were-bards who roam the land biting, killing, raiding, pillaging, and singing. We are given the mission of killing them off because nobody likes a boy band.   The tree pops us out into a new area, and the battle begins.
