Lanternlight

A formidable city of stone is pinned precariously upon a slope between a cradle of mountains and the sea. Rain falls eternally here, and gathers in rushing torrents through aqueducts, canals, and sewers before diving wantonly over the sea-cliffs. The monolithic city - Lanternlight - is only a headstone upon the real fortune. Beneath the earth, a tendrilous web of mines extract gems, gold, and valuable metals for the competing interests of their top-side patrons. Merchants’ guilds, criminal syndicates, and mining companies are struggling unendingly with one another for control and influence of the city, its people, and the precious mines below.

Ethnicities

Lanternlight attracts a metropolitan mix of ethnicities, and promises fortune to anyone willing to exploit its bounty.

Dwarves

Lanternlight's focus on precious minerals tends to skew its ethnic makeup more towards Dwarves than most other cities in Nobis. The lack of a real Dwarven mountain home means that those living in the city tend to satisfy their need for close family connections by grouping together into loose clans. In some cases, those clans have begin to dig secretive keeps in the exhausted and abandoned mine sections beneath the city.

Wealth

The wealth distribution in Lanternlight is highly unequal - even more so than would normally be expected of a wealthy city. The cutthroat nature of mineral extraction skews the wealthy organizations in the city toward those who are best able to operate without the oppression of ethics. Mining syndicates, merchant's guilds, and powerful families are the primary holders of the city's wealth - which they keep either tied up in property in the city, or shuttled away in vaults.

Government

The official law enforcement body of the Lanternlight City Council are the Guarda of Lanternlight.
