Varkin

Demographics

Varkin is primarily a Human city, of foreign stock. It's promenance as a trade hub has attracted sizable minority demographics of dwarves, elves, and other near-human sentient species.

Government

After decades of internal struggle between the Marquesate of Noba and the local trade factions, an unsteady peace has been secured under a compromise city council structure. Council members are appointed by the various powerful guilds within the city, and a council chairman is voted to power with defacto executive authority. In reality, the chairman is appointed to the position by the Marquess as the representative of the "Military Chair".

Districts

Varkin is very noticably divided into cantons, each with slightly different culture, local powers, and economic prospects.

The Estate Quarter

The estate canton houses many of the public structures of the city, including the council chambers themselves.

The Upper Canton

The upper canton is the wealthiest quarter of the city, festuned with manor houses, green gardens, and luxurious shops and trades. Most of the city's wealthy merchants live in this quarter.

The Merchant Canton

The merchant canton is dominated by businesses and trades.
