Beacon of Sophorros
The beacon is a 60' tall tower on a headland on the western side of Alveres Strait. The strait connects the Northern Ocean to the Windy Sea. The complex around the tower includes a keeper's house and a small military garrison based in a wooden blockhouse. The tower is entered through an iron door at the base and the building tapers part way up. The beacon gallery has high narrow arches and a copper plated dome on the roof. The dome is kept polished so it reflects sun light acting as sort of a day time beacon.
Purpose / Function
Marks the entrance to the strait connecting the Northern Ocean with the windy sea.
Alterations
The tower is some three hundred years ago. After the collapse of the old Kingdom of the Faroo, the Beacon fell into disrepair. The ruined beacon was rebuilt by the Majaran Empire and returned to service.
Architecture
The tower is made of large blocks of light gray stone reinforced with buttressing of cement. The tower is square with an arched gallery at the top where the beacon is emplaced. The beacon uses a polished metal mirror set behind a large iron fire pit.
