Originally trained as a courtesan, she used the access it gave her to the rich and powerful to steal. She taught learn magic from one of her clients. Eventually she caught the eye of a high ranking member of the Zalarite Order and became her mistress. Eventually Elissa fell out with her benefactor and found herself at loose ends. Already knowing her socially, Arrenda Eslin thought her skill set would be useful so she asked her to join the Shadow Cohort.

Raised as a professional courtesan, Serva craved more excitement and began to steal. Tiring of making money on her back she moved into the more comfortable role of being the mistress of a high ranking Zalarite officer. When this relationship collapsed she joined the Shadow cohort and soon found herself living a life of adventuring and loving it.
