Zalarite Order (Sisterhood of Zalara)

Sisterhood of Zalara – A millennia ago, the Sisterhood of Zalara fought beside the Alyites fighting off otherworldly invaders. Over time the order became increasingly concerned with building its own power. They built the city of Zareb on a Plateau in the Spine and surrounded it with magical defenses that made it virtually unassailable. Increasingly the Sisterhood sought alliances with questionable sects and unsavory rulers with an emphasis on building the Order’s power and wealth. No questions asked mercenary work became the core source of revenue for the Order until the discovery of silver mines near Zareb which have been exploited using slave labor. Leadership of the sect became the hereditary position of the Korren family. The Zalarites typically wear black uniforms consisting of a tunic, riding breeches, high boots and cloak. The order suffered a shattering blow when its army was annihilated by High Queen Atheneis Majara as the battle of Arendar Pass. Shortly thereafter, using deception, Empress Atheneis was able to gain entrance to Zareb and seize the city bringing under control of the newly formed Majaran Empire. Various scattered holdings of the Order remained. Mainly in the western lands. Realizing traditional recruiting methods would be insufficient to rebuild their military strength they have sought to rebuild their ranks through an aggressive campaign of taking in female orphans and are reputed to be buying young girls from their parents to further supplement their recruitment drive.

Structure

The Order has traditionally been under the leadership of the Queen of Zareb. The Current Grand Mistress of the Order styles heself the Queen of Zareb, but in reality the Order has lost control of the Kingdom. The Grand Mistress has three marshals that report to here and at least a dozen generals. For territorial control the Order is currently working for local rulers who depend on the Order's support.
