City of Erryl

The City of Erryl floats across the skies of Mong Bal and is the hometwon of Sun Wukong. Unlike most Mong Bal cities, Erryl eschews large walls in favor of anti-gravity technology that keeps it afloat and well out of reach of its enemies. Indeed, the city wasn't so much as built by the Mong Bal as "discovered" amidst Ryllian ruins. Many of the city's residents incorporate advanced Ryllian technology into their everyday lives, completely oblivious to its ancient origins. Instead, they assume these wondrous inventions were created by their magnanimous warlord. Like many cities, Erryl is marked by steep class divisions with a class of nobles that rules over servants and commoners who perform the daily tasks necessary to keep the city operational. The result is a strange combination of a repressed and backward populace that nevertheless is highly proficient and accustomed to ancient and advanced technologies.   For much of Erryl's history, the city was ruled by the warlord Kuan Ti. A cruel and callous man considered a "rogue warlord" that does not adhere to the authority of the great basin council. Instead, Erryl receives its nectar directly from Source in exchange for allowing trade with the Io East Orbit Company and the Corsairs to use the city as a foothold in the region and for recruitment. Every year that the Corsair Exam is held, Erryl hosts a tournament that allows the winner to leave the city and apply to join the Corsairs. Nobles may enter the tournament risk-free but any commoner who enters that does not win is sentenced to death for sedition.   The city saw a massive shake up when Kuan Ti was assassinated on the day that two of its notable residents, Sun Wukong and Fang Feng left to join the Corsairs. In his death, rulership of the city passed to his daughter, Tien Mu--a much kinder and more level-headed member of the royal family.
