In the beginning before Hartzonell created the races, the land was empty; not just of life but of the minerals and ores far beneath the soil. At that time, none of the divine had thought much of the fact. It simply just was what it was. Fairly soon Phaedra breathed life into the first beings. Rixa watched these beings, curious about each of them, studying their morals and adventures from the beginning. When the first mortals died it was a shock. How could Phaedra’s gift be wasted in such a manner? He was not the keeper of souls, or mortals for that matter, so what was he to do but care for his own Plane and watch, curiously, onward. It wasn’t until he watched a mortal slaughter a great beast, one of the earliest dragons, that he was moved to action. The mortal man, named Sumulu, had ventured out in search of the beast, who was large enough to feed his village, and returned dragging its corpse behind him, to a cheering family. He had brought glory to his name, and Rixa was moved to his core. He followed the mortal for the next few years, curious as to his next conquest. Eventually, Sumulu was killed by his prey before Rixa’s eyes. He would not mourn the loss, not of a mortal. But instead he would ensure his glory was honored. He would bury the body, waiting a few days for the blood of the man to soak into the earth beneath him and form the liquid into thousands of precious gems to make the red that stained his hands during his hunts. Afterwards, Rixa returned to his own Plane, though his gaze still turned to the mortals, ever watchful for another adventurer seeking glory and honor. When he found one he would watch, paying close attention to the pure hearted and fierce so that he could honor the fallen that had earned their place among the others, each creating different shapes and colors of ores, minerals, and gemstones: those who deserved to be “Gemblooded.” In some cultures, it is said that when the earth beneath their feet quakes and the sound of rumbling echoes loudly through the sky that Rixa walks across the land in search of the next mortal who would earn his eternal glory. The superstition causes hordes of men and women to flock towards the sights searching for precious ores and gems.
