Black Aprons
Vester set his burden down gently on the wooden floor of the house before turning back to his host, "You do me a great service letting a stranger like me, and an outsider no less, stay here for the night ma'am."
"Don't mention it child. Its always a pleasure to host a young Daisen such as yourself. And please, call me Lesha." Closing the door behind her, Lesha placed her wide-brimmed sun hat on a peg on the wall nearby. "Have a seat and relax dear, I'll go about making us some dinner".
"That would be wonderful Lesha," he said as he moved to take a seat by the table. "If I had to choose one thing I missed most from my life before I set out on this path it would easily be home cooking. Father was truly a genius in the kitchen."
"Well I'm certainly not your father, but I'll see if I can't make something to compare," she said with a laugh as she tied a long black apron around herself. As she set about preparing the food, Vester watched her closely.
"You know, my father actually had an apron just like yours. A little shorter, but the color was exactly the same. Black as the caves of the Kerato." Lesha froze for a moment in the middle of chopping vegetables, but Vester continued on as if he didn't notice. "I used to wonder why he went out of his way to dye it black. After all, I never saw anyone else wearing something similar." Lesha returned to prepping their food, but more slowly this time, listening closely to the words of the young daisen. "One evening I decided to ask him about it while he cooked, and he just smiled down at me and said — "
"It hides the stains. It seems your father was quite the smart man." Lesha was now looking directly at Vester, no longer working on dinner. Vester smiled at her.
"And he taught me everything he knows." Lesha returned the smile.
"Welcome brother. It has been too long since I have seen another of the guard. Let me finish getting this food ready and we can talk after we eat."
"Thank you sister. I hope you don't need much rest, because there is much to say before I leave in the morning. The Origin Stone has been found."
Significance
A black apron (or other similar garb) is a secret symbol used by the Runeguard to reveal themselves to other members safely. They are a representation of the old uniforms of the Runelords which were black to symbolize the color of the ink they used so often as well as hide the stains from that same ink.
