The Origin Stone

Summary

Before the Collapse, when Runic was still at the core of society and The Many flourished, there existed a great stone hidden and protected by the Runelords. This stone was the source of the pre-Collapse people's power. Called the Origin Stone, it is said to have contained the story of the birth of the people, as well as a path to great knowledge and strength. Some claim the knowledge on the stone could advance a rune-user one hundred times faster than the best people can hope for now. The secrets to the wonders of the ancient people lie carved into that stone. With it, the people would once again prosper. No more starvation, disease, or rampant poverty. Everything is possible with the Origin Stone.

Historical Basis

During the Collapse, almost all of the ancient writings and records were burnt to ash. Some though, were salvaged and protected from the purging of Runic. A few of these recovered writings mention a 'stone' that was of seeming importance. Exact details of what it was, what is did, why it was important, or where it was kept have been the subject of much speculation among the Runeguards.

This legend has all but been erased from the world, kept alive by the few practitioners of the Runic arts left. This secret society has passed down the tale in the hopes of one day recovering the Origin Stone and with it, the lost history and glory of their kind.

Variations & Mutation

Even among the few who still know this legend, differences of opinion exist. Some claim the stone has the words of the One True God, directions to the people they created on how to live. Others say it is simply a collection of all the knowledge of the Pre-Collapse civilization. Others still claim the stone was actually created by some ancient Beastwho first shared the wonders of Runic to a fledgling people.
