Ernest Roe is Circle Founder, Jason Garamund Drumkeeploch caretaker and friend for the last thirty years. For the first twenty five years he worked at the Seasway Resort Hotel​ for Jason and his father. At an early age he worked his way into a well paying position, but during the war the resort was bombed by Otherwhere adversaries. Ernest Roe is Jason Garamund's Drumkeeploch Manor House caretaker and friend for the last thirty years. For the first twenty five years he worked at the Seasway's Resort for Jason and his father. At an early age he worked his way into a well paying position, but during the war the resort was bombed by Otherwhere adversaries.
After the war the family broke up over how to recoup their losses and whether to split the financial inheritance of their parents or build a new resort. It was a mess that Ernest wasn't allowed to engage with. He grew bitter after the loss of his own son and wife, who died during their usual mine work day in a chemical explosion in the Bridleborne Mountains.
Immediately after the war, Ernest and several members of the Garamund family were accused of fraternizing with the enemy. Jason suggested that he move to Crooked Mile and live in a shack until the Manor House was renovated. Instead of moving into the house Ernest chose to stay in the somewhat fixed up shack, but he continued to work for hourly wages at the Manor.

Jason, dealing with his recovery did not pay enough attention to Ernest's comings and going or stability. What Ernest didn't know is that Ernest began auctioning off a few of Jason's tools and equipment.
While guiding a group of tourists through nearby coastal caves he met Dr. Dr. Lionel Benton, Neurologist who convinced him to join Coastal Alternatives. He had no idea at first what the organization did, but they paid him well. Since he no longer felt the same fealty toward the Garamund's he decided to complete a few contracts.
Ernest Roe was sure that Milo Klein was an apparition Jason intentionally created for the purpose of terrifying him. Without Jason's knowledge, Dr. Benton prescribed him an elixir that turned his fear into aggression. He was sure that Milo was stealing his shadow during the late afternoons. Once his shadow disappeared he spoke in the language of the devoted Red Moon Clan, and he changed physically. His shadow was responsible for his killing contracts made with him by the clan. Only with his clan's help could he express his hostility with an anger and cruelty that he never felt as a child. Dr. Benton had filled him his emptiness with a purpose.
