Marvel's Boarding House, established in 1807 has long been a pathway, railway, and roadway stop for travelers through the Crooked Mile region. While it mostly caters to local residents, it once housed dignatatries, explorers and criminals. Over the years many unexplained phenomena was reported. While Gertrude Marvel works hard to dispell any talk about ghosts or ghouls, particularly violent or disruptive supernatural beings, the rumors and lore continues to affect potential customers.

Gertrude Marvel Marvel is not the most forgiving employer. She fires local residents for the smallest infractions. Or the most vocal. The house, a three story Queen Anne style home needs a fresh coat of paint, indoor plumbing that works, electric lighting and fumigation. The odor, a blend of what grows in the Palisades Garden and horse manure lingers throughout the house summer or winter.
The least expensive accommodations are on third floor. A row of cots, accompanied by a small closet and room for trunk is rented for short periods of time. Favors, work and political gossip are often exchanged for a bed. The second floor rooms are usually rented for a reasonable cost, but the customers must keep their accommodations tidy. Maids only clean first floor rooms that are rented to travelers who can afford to pay their bills monthly.
