Troirin

The Keeper of the Cycle

Allegedly formed from an entire civilization, Troirin came to be. He resembles a skeletal being wearing a dark cloak and embodies the concept of death. He created the concept of death and dying, ensuring all life would end where it started: "From dust, you came, dust ye shall be". He also created the cycle of life, the ever-turning wheel of Birth to Life to Death to Judgement to Reincarnation repeat. He resides at the edge off our known existence, in a domain only the dead can enter: the The Outer Planes. Here he and his council judges all based on the actions of their life, these creatures are not truly as they were in life, as their immortal soul has resurfaced, granting clarity into its whole existence, but heavily colored by their last reincarnation. Based on this judgment the soul is either allowed to continue its journey on the wheel or it will pass through any number of devious challenges with the objective to reshape the soul to one which is allowed to rejoin the cycle. On a few occasions, these souls prove to damaged or corrupted for them to be completely reshaped by the challenges. In these cases, the soul is also allowed back on the wheel, provided this damage is benign. In more egregious cases the soul is exiled into the void, as these would match the ferocity of Demons, never to rejoin the cycle.   The Council of Troirin consists out of eight members, Troirin as well of seven beings. These Virtues test the soul preceding their judgment, and based on their decisions the soul either allowed into the cycle or send trough the field of challenges, as well as how the soul shall be reincarnated when it continues on the wheel. These virtues are depicted as seven gargoyles in black robes, features hidden beneath the hood.
  • Castitas (Chastity): Determines if the Soul controls it urges and is not steered by Lust.
  • Temperantia (Temperance): Determines if the Soul controls desires, and is not steered by Gluttony.
  • Caritas (Charity): Determines if the Soul is capable of giving, and is not steered by Greed.
  • Industria (Diligence): Determines if the Soul is willing to perform work, and is not steered by Sloth.
  • Patientia (Patience): Determines if the Soul can forgive, and is not steered by Wrath.
  • Humanitas (Kindness): Determines if the Soul shows compassion, and is not steered by Envy.
  • Humilitas (Humility): Determines if the Soul is reverent to the gods, and is not steered by hubris.
In the aftermath of the The Age of the Planar Conflict Troirin played a vital role in quelling Hogesh' incursion by granting Araquil's fighter a reprieve from death, allowing them to endure far beyond their normal means, for this Araquil owed Troirin, a debt Troirin made good upon soon after.   With the wheel of life constantly turning, and souls getting exiled, there must be a way to replace those lost souls. New souls are created by Enthraeim, initially without bound. As such Troirin with the assistance of Araquil quelled this influx of souls, ensuring there would be a constant amount of souls venturing trough the wheel.

The long finger of Death:

On rare occasions after reincarnation, some of these souls become damaged, or on rare occasions can remember their other lives. This damage manifests itself in deranged mad-man or psychopaths wholly bent causing mayhem and destruction. As these souls are damaged it fall upon Troirin and his devotees to bring these to justice. As Troirin only judges souls these individuals have to die, a job which is is one of the many duties of the Virtuous of Troirin. but was initially fulfilled by the Tabaxi, a race that would serve him as devoted assassins and worshipers. Enthraeim created these feline-killers at Troirin's request, but over time these proved less than loyal and deserted their god-given task. Misfortune haunts them to this day.

The Faith: The Virtuous of Troirin

Often seen wearing long black robes, these devotees focus on maintaining order in the ever-turning wheel of Troirin. As such they actively hunt down those with broken souls, and send them to Troirin to be judged; seek out rumors of immortality and either destroy or seal these away; and take aggressive measures against those who deal in necromancy and their creations. This includes the use of resurrection magic, as such the Virtuous are the only ones who can restore life to those which have passed, but will only do so sparingly, those who use this magic without the consent of the Virtuous risk angering this powerful organization, and possibly it's god.   They believe people live the life they do because Troirin has decreed as such, and so you should live your life as best as you can. Those with an exceptional bad life deserve it, as their soul must be so impure that Troirin has decreed they should suffer in life, as such assisting these peraihs is frowned upon by the Virtuous. This is also a point of conflict with the Caretakers of Enthraeim, as these consider helping these poor souls a divine duty.   People see the Virtuous of Troirin as a bad omen, as they embody death and their actions seldom spell well. "When the Virtuous are on the move, Troirin shall judge" is a commonly held sentiment. As such not many devote themselves wholly to the god of death, but many do offer sacrifices to him, in the hope to appease him for the judgment of themselves or a loved one.   In many cities, the faith of Troirin tends to the graveyards and provides funeral services.

Relations

With the faith of Enthraeim devoted to changing the lives of those the Virtuous deem unworthy they actively go against the decree of their god. To rectify this, the Virtuous have on occasion sought out these redeemed souls and restored their semblance of order, making examples out of a few high profile individuals.   With the rumors of immortally hanging around the upper echelon of the Chosen of Cawelt the Virtuous have set their goals on unearthing truth surrounding this insult to their god, which has ruffled the feathers of the chosen.   Diplomacy Diagram not available
