Aven's Hold

The second-largest settlement in the Kingdom of Sien, Aven's Hold is only a short way south from Sien and has been under Siennian ownership for about a century. Originally founded by dwarves heading north from the southern mountains, Aven's Hold has an extremely strong dwarven presence, with few buildings being designed to accommodate for larger folk.   The original site of the city was underground, however a mere 150 years into the cities history, a giant purple worm tore through the region, sending people scrambling to the surface, and leaving the city in ruin. The dwarves rebuilt above ground but continued their ambitious mining projects. Aven's Hold is a large mining city, specialising in iron, adamantine and aragonite, alongside limestone. It is the largest producer of adamantine in Eastern Eleron. Thanks to the cities proximity to Sien, new technologies are being applied to the mining to increase productivity, though many dwarves disapprove, believing that they should continue working with the traditional hands-on approach.   The city lies not far from the coast, connected via a dwarven-made canal that runs from the city to the ocean. This canal ends at the centre point of the city, where it widens into a dock space. The city is surrounded by grassy plains, and on the northside, fields of Dragonsbane, naturally growing ever since the plant was introduced to the city during the Mordhaerrath War.

Demographics

The majority of the population in Aven's Hold is made up of smallfolk, particularly dwarves. There is a large working-class presence, but no large gaps between the different classes of wealth.

Government

Aven's Hold is governed by a duke or viscount, with different Siennian kings granting different titles during the city's history. An advisor is always stationed in the city, as a connection between Aven's Hold and Sien, this advisor is always trained in the capital itself, and does not have the authority to overrule the dwarven head of the city.
