Yara Kouri

Yara Kouri (a.k.a. The Arcanic Warrior)

Yara Kouri was a young Elven woman who lived in the Red Desert at the height of the Age of Triumph. She was known for learning and sharing new ways of using Arcanis, at a time when it was only just being understood. Yara was credited with being one of the people who brought people to the height of their powers and earned her place in the Epic of Legends. However, the journey to get to this point was quite eventful.

Life in the Desert

Yara lived when the Age of Triumph was reaching its best, and life was getting better for ordinary people. However, her family was still in poverty because of the desert's harsh climate, meaning they could hardly find any resources to feed the family. When she reached her mid-30s, she saw that her life wouldn't going to improve, so she became a mercenary, working for the highest payers. No job, it seemed, was too morally corrupt for her to take.   Yara was known to be very combative and quickly earned a reputation for being a fiery warrior. She was feared by her opponents, and shunned by many in her community. They considered her selfish, ruthless, or morally bankrupt in some cases.   Despite all this, there were a few members of the community who would describe Yara positively. She had a strong sense of justice, and would routinely go to help those who found themselves hurt or wronged for no reason.

The Spirit Realms

One job she took brought her to the outskirts of the Red Desert, where it was much cooler. The person she had been tasked with killing lived near the sea. Unfortunately, she didn't realise the Hydro Dragon lived in those waters at the time and angered it. She never knew what exactly had made it angry, but it awoke from its slumber and sent her and her target to the Spirit Realms.   Being from the Red Desert, Yara didn't get much education on the dangers of the Spirit World, so thought it would be easy to leave. Unfortunately, she was proven very wrong and found herself stuck in the Spirit World what she thought was a year. She spent this time exploring the Realms, having given up hope of ever returning home.
On her travels, Yara met a wide range of mortals who were trapped like her. She learned how unprotected mortals were in the Spirit World, and made a small refuge for her fellow travellers in one of the safer realms. This caught the attention of many spirits, as very few mortals had learnt the inner workings of the Spirit World as effectively as she had.   For the next few months, she made it her mission to find all the portals to the Spirit World and redirect any lost mortals to her small sanctuary. This got her to travel all over the Spirit World, and encounter many dangers along the way.

Over time, Yara learned to be more patient and less combative in her daily life. And her sanctuary got bigger as more people found a safe haven from any angry spirits. Despite finding these portals, she found she could never leave through any of them, which annoyed her a lot.

Yara's Return

After a year, Yara managed to leave the Spirit World, after finding what was later called the Land of Memory. She awoke deep in the water and had to find her way back to the Red Desert. Although she had lived almost a year in the Spirit World, Yara realised she had only left for a few weeks.   All the confusion and weirdness of the Spirit World made Yara want to learn so much more about it. Over the next few years of her life, she dedicated herself to learning about how the Spirit World was connected to their Mortal World. The knowledge she gained was mainly about Arcanis, and how it connected the two planes of Dankar together.   Later on, she began to teach others what she had learned, in the form of martial arts. Her intrinsic knowledge of magic and fighting meant that many people became stronger and had more confidence using their powers and navigating the world around them. Yara led a long life of curiosity and patience, inspiring young adventurers to this day.
