Session 12.75 Report - Unsafe Travels
General Summary
Aukan "Gravetender" Katho-Olavi woke to the light of the dim morning light as it filtered through the clouds, turning to find Ireena standing dutifully at the side of the bed. "Good Morning, a raven delivered a message from Dark Jade early this morning." Gravetender rubbed his eyes, sat up in his bed, and took the letter from Ireena, with a tired grunt.
"I'll fix some breakfast," she said as she headed out of Gravetender's chambers and downstairs. Gravetender broke the wax seal and opened the letter, it had better be important.
"Gravetender,
Received a request from Lazlo to come to Barovia Village. If I remember you have some business in the village as well. I'll meet you and fill you in on the details at the Blue Water Inn in Vallaki.
Your friend,
DJ"
DJ was right, he did need to handle the fallout from Donovich's recent suicide. Unfortunately, priests don't tend to live long in Barovia, so doubted he'd be able to find anyone who could take care of the church, but decided he would stop in Vallaki and talk about it with Father Lucian Petrovich.
Gravetender swung his feet to the cold wood floor of his chambers, stepped over to the shrine to give prayers to the Morning Lord, got dressed, and prepared his gear for the days long journey. Heading downstairs he found a plate of eggs and a small unexpected slice of ham. Ireena noticing his enjoyment of the meat, "One of the villagers left us some extra pig they had as an offering."
Finishing his meal and gathering supplies for the road, Gravetender mounted his horse and wound his way down the switchback path to Krezk, confident that Ireena and Stella would be safe at the Abbey of Saint Markovia for a few days. On his way through Krezk the Burgomaster waved at Gravetender as he passed and reminded him to spread the word to the other villages about her soap.
The cold fog hung heavy as Gravetender made his way. The journey to the crossroads was peaceful, and for the first time in a while Gravetender could tell no one was scrying or watching him. As he reached the middle of the bridge however, a small westward breeze brought with it the stink of death. Peering through the fog, lumbering shapes appeared, ghasts and ghouls all with the markings and damaged bodies of Yester folk. They must have risen after yesterday's battle seeking revenge.
He was outnumbered but not worried, these were undead, easier to deal with than the Yester Folk themselves. The ghasts and ghouls swarmed him as he burned the most hardy of them with Sacred Flames. They swung their weapons, clawed, and bit but could not find skin under Gravetender's armor. Gravetender then held the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind high and condemned them in the name of the Morninglord. The ghouls were destroyed instantly, their bodies turning to ash and sent the ghasts running in fear of Gravetender's holy power. With that Gravetender drew The Sunsword from its hiding place, making its shining briliant blade of holy light appear. He then made quick work destroying the remaining dead Yester folk.
The remainder of the trip to Vallaki was free of trouble, Gravetender arriving at the 9th bell. Stopping in at St. Andral's Church he confirs with Lucian Petrovich about the church in the Village of Barovia and what should be done about Donovich's recent suicide and bringing the faith of the Morninglord back to the village's people.
Lucian can't take the position and while his sister might be willing to take it she is still in mourning for her son and husband and requires more training. Yeska is too young and Stella too inexperienced. Also, with winter coming it will be hard to find someone willing to move to Barovia. Perhaps come spring something can be done, or perhaps Gravetender can find someone in the village itself.
With the church business resolved, Gravetender then headed into the Blue Water Inn to meet up with DARK JADE CLOUD.Character(s) interacted with
