Session 6: Bones, Blood, and Wine Report
Due to the Magic Circle in the vampire spawn fight, Thiala has discovered that while she is possessed by Rose and/or Thorn she can not enter areas that are protected against Undead. If she goes to the church of St. Andral while the bones protect the place, Rose and Thorn would be immediately exorcised and set back to Barovia.
Thiala discovered that Davian Martikov and his family are Were-Ravens when she saw them transform in the Martikovs returning to the winery.
General Summary
20th day of the 9th Moon, 735
Our three travelers geared up and headed out to confront the coffin maker Henrik van der Voort about the Bones of St. Andral. Knocking on the door of the Coffin Maker's Shop they're only greeting is shouts of "Go Away!" and "We're Closed!" and "Leave me alone!". DARK JADE CLOUD picked the lock and stepped inside with Aukan "Gravetender" Katho-Olavi where they began their interogation. Henrik realizing he had been caught with no escape, confesses to the crime.
One night several months ago, Henrik was visited by an imposing, well dressed, nobleman named Vasili von Holtz and promised the coffin maker "good business" in exchange for his help. Since, then his workshop became a lair for a pack of vampire spawn, who began to lay low within his ship waiting for an opportunity and bring the "good business" the nobleman had promised. When Henrick found out about the sacred bones buried under the church, the vampire spawn ordered him to steal the bones, which Henrik paid Milivoj to do.
After setting up a magic circle in the back room where the vampire spawn lay sleeping and taking a minute preparing stakes, the party then set to their task of destroying the monsters. The battle raged for over a minute and attracted the attention of two town guards on patrol. The guards get whats going on from the frightened coffin maker and arrest him while watching in awe as the three heroes cut down the monsters.
Task complete, Gravetender returns the holy bones to the church and assists Father Lucian Petrovich in placing them back in their proper place, retoring their hallowed protections upon the church. Thiala Galanodel, Dark Jade, and Ireena Kolyana prepare for the group's travel to Wizard of Wines Vineyard to check on the wine supply. Ireena, not feeling safe in town alone, insisted on accompanying the party even if it put her in danger.
The journey to Wizard of Wines Vineyard was uneventful until they started to make their way up the path to the winery. There, they were confronted by Davian Martikov, owner and proprietor and father of Urwin Martikov. He escorted them back to a small clearing of the woods where he and his family had taken refuge. The travelers find out that blights, led by the Druids of Yester Hill, assaulted the Martikov's and drove them from their home a couple days ago.
The travelers, vowing to free the vineyard of the blight, continued to the winery, coming within a stone's throw from the building before the rustling of dead vines all around them turned to inhuman shapes, limbs crackling as they moved to attack the party. Thiala Galanodel's use of fireball, flaming sphere and other spells along with DARK JADE CLOUD's archery proved the deciding factor in a seige that lasted for over a minute as wave upon wave of blights along with three Druids of Yester Hill, crashed upon them like water against a dam. Though it took almost everything they had, the four heroes emerged victorious.
The party then headed into the winery, searching it for any more blight. While they didn't find any more blight they did find that the last vat of fermenting wine may have been poisoned, which Aukan "Gravetender" Katho-Olavi then purified using the powers of his god.
Davian is very grateful to the party for taking back their family home and gives each of them one of the last bottles of Champagne Du Le Stomp. He also lays out two more requests. The first and most urgent issue is to get the remaining barrels of wine delivered around the valley. The second and more problematic issue, the "magic seeds" that allow the grapes to grow in Barovia despite the lack of sunlight have all been stolen. The seed for the Champagne was stollen years ago and it's location is unknown, the loss of which Davian blames on his middle son Urwin Martikov. However, Davian knows that the seed for the Red Dragon Crush was stolen by Baba Lysaga a powerful old witch who lives in a moving hut near the ruins of Berez. He also knows that the Druid's of Yester Hill absconded with the Purple Grape Mash No. 3 seed. The seeds are the size and shape of pinecones with a soft magical aura of light.
The travelers agree to escort the wine shipment around the valley and afterwards work on recovering the seeds. The Martikov's load the wagon and Adrian Martikov and Elvir Martikov join the party as they set out to their first drop off, the Village of Krezk. A convenient location as that is where they need to take Ireena Kolyana look for the sword of light, and a possible ally in their fight against Strahd.
