A Day of Change
This has been quite a day. While I was waiting for the other to arrive, I was spending time thinking of what Keres is asking me to do. The two things that I was stuck on was seeing Rose alive and happy, the daunting task of seducing Strahd and his brides. Two very different visions that will affect me different ways.
One that allows my deep desire to pass on my knowledge to one of my own and one that will allow me to indulge in my newly found passions.
I wonder if reflecting on these visions brought Ludmilla to my newly acquired lands. She had decided to gift me with two beautiful blood red crystal swords and has started to train me on using multiple swords in a fight. While I admit I am enjoying the lessons, I wonder what this is about. I doubt I have gained enough of their trust for them to be bestowing multiple gifts. Beyond that though, it was nice to be able to have a good conversation with a fellow warrior who is familiar with details of war.
Of course seeing the look of dislike when Ludmilla stated that she was going with us was rather entertaining to see. Part of me is enjoying this a bit too much. After mounting Shadeflame, I invite her to join me. It would not do to have a countess to walk while the rest of us ride.
After an encounter with some will o'wisps and a gallows speaker, we finally made it to Barovia proper.
We drop off the items that DJ and Gravetender were delivering and drop Ludmilla at the tavern before making our way to visit with Laslow.
I was so happy to see Rose again and the visions of her as a young woman teaching the children of Ivlis teased me again as we reunited. Unfortunately I was not able to talk with her right away, as there was business to discuss regarding the werewolves.
I noticed that the room we were in was shielded from viewing and scrying. This new feature gave me hope that I could provide the other two with information without the chance of Strahd or the others peeking in on our conversations. Unfortunately before I could pull the two aside for a private conversation, Ludmilla was at the front gate.
It seems that there was a group of people at the Eastern gate looking for the black cat DJ. Of course we went to see who was looking for DJ. Of all things, I was not expecting to see Renee and several others from Introsia. I informed Ludmilla of who they were to DJ and us. After that it seems that she was likely informing Strahd of the situation. Suddenly she tells DJ that they will be his responsibility before pulling out her crown and mounts that disguised hell hound to greet the newest guests to Barovia.
Seeing Ludmilla portraying an imposing Countess was awe inspiring. I might have let some of my desires out before I was really intending to. Oh well, I couldn't help it and it makes me ache for my beautiful Moth. I wonder how long I will be away from her. I'm going to wear the dear girl out with my needs when I see her again at this rate.
Once we got the Introsians settled at Laslo's, I was able to get DJ and Gravetender in one of the protected rooms and explained what is happening and that I am using the opportunity to spy on Strahd and the others. But to make sure that they refrain from telling me things that they do not want them to know as I am unsure if I will be able to hold much information from them.
But the most wonderful thing finally occurred. When the others were asleep, I made my way to the crypts and used the gift that Keres gave me to bring Rose back to life as my daughter. Seeing her living and breathing in her body was such a joy and a relief.
I hope that the others will forgive me for this, but I truly wanted her to be my daughter.
Come into my parlour said the spider to the fly
After the battle on Yesterhill….well, more like a fight really; Moth and I made it back to Vallaki and a room at the inn. I'm not sure what was more exhausting, the fight itself or knowing that Strahd and his brides were watching.
Because of the exhaustion I inadvertently opened a portal to the Eternal Rest Hot Springs. I know that it is a bit of a risk to go in with only Moth as back up, but how can I resist a chance to learn more about his brides.
Wherever this location is, it is beautiful. Upon entering, we were given a room and a list of places we are allowed to go to. After partaking in the hot springs and getting massages, we took time to rest.
Not too long after, I awoke to the sound of voices in a conversation. Ever curious, I made my way to the lounge and found the three brides of Strahd.
Seeing them all in this setting was a sight to behold. I could feel my passions pooling in me. I wonder if any of them would be willing to play as some point?
Though I guess, Countess Anastrasya had other ideas and grilled me on my loyalties to Strahd. What could I say? I told her that I don't have any trust in Strahd or them. My loyalty is to myself and my dark mother. I only fought against Strahd since he was trying to take Ireena. We had made a commitment to bring her to Kresk, not hand her over to him.
They also asked about the others. I gave them what answers I could since the others have not explained why they were sent to Barovia. I explained that I was there to find any information on Mordenkainen and to report back to Candlekeep.
Understandably they were interested in Ireena. I told them that she scares me and explained what I saw when she came back to life. To me there is no logical reason for her to be walking around and she makes me uncomfortable.
Later I decided to take up Ludmilla's challenge of a spar. The fight was tough and I learned I would need to work harder if I ever wanted to best her in a fight. I thought I was doing pretty well at least until she got a good solid blow that broke some of my ribs. The most frustrating moment was being awakened by Ludmilla after she knocked me out. All I could think of was kissing her she was that close…
After another soak and again being grilled by the Countess I made it back to my room. Thankfully Moth was there and I could indulge in her to help relieve my frustrations.
As an added treat Moth and I were given a tour of some of the areas of the castle before being sent on our way. Now to go over everything I have seen and learned. Right now any information that I can gather is going to be useful at some point.
The Rabbit Hole
I dreamt of Keres again. There is a voice in my head saying that continuing to communicate with Keres is a bad idea. But I am not sure if that it is me saying it or if it something that my mentor did when he erased my memories.
I know that Keres has knowledge to help me defeat Strahd. Though I'm not sure if I would be strong enough to charm him to my will as she suggests. But any knowledge that will aid me in getting rid of Strahd is good right?
Let's see how far the rabbit hole goes.
A Sheriff of Barovia
This has been an unusual day. We were deputized by Strahd and sent to Kresk to exact justice for Tatiyana. It looks that the Abbot is mad and had killed her to use parts of her to create the perfect bride for Strahd.
We confronted the Burgomaster, who in the end confessed to handing Tatiyana over to the Abbott in exchange to bring his son back to life. Thankfully his punishment was swift. But now we still need to decide what to do with his wife and son. Gravetender believes that this child is an abomination and needs to be killed. But I can't do that to a small child. Oh, the dilemma.
Though what bothered me the most was when I found Ireena's body. I was so angered that the abbot had killed her for some stupid vision of providing a bride to Strahd. But before I could think of what to do with her body, I watched as the body heal itself and she came back to life. I do know what happened to Ireena, but I have never been as disturbed as I was at that moment. What does it mean for Ireena?
Falling into Temptation
The temptation was too great to not resist. On our way from the Wizards of Wine, we were escorting the wine shipment to Kresk. At the cross-roads Strahd was waiting for us. Goddess, this vampire is relentless in his pursuit of Ireena!
Unfortunately Ireena was having trouble resisting Strahd. Luckily, I was able to interfere by casting a protection spell on her and blocking Strahd's way to her.
While we were able to put up a decent fight, I knew it was futile since we were all starting run on empty, especially spells. Suddenly I once again heard the voice from my dreams.
For some reason, the voice was warm and welcoming. She kept saying, 'Welcome Home' and said that I could have the power to defeat Strahd. All I had to do was accept.
The power and knowledge to destroy Strahd at my fingertips. Such a tantalizing offer. Along with the possibility to protect all my charges including the children… How can I say no to that? Isn't that what a mother would do?
When the power surged through me, it felt new and also like welcoming an old friend. Such a strange feeling. The voice, no that wasn't right, Keres told me to ask Blix about the missing pages. I did not have time at the moment as we were not finished with fighting Strahd.
Afterwards, while we were taking a quick break I had time to take in the changes. The changes are strange. I seem to have no eyes when I am like this, but I am able to see so much more this way. Strange… I also now have six fingers on each hand. Again very strange. I'll need to figure out what they help with. I seem to have also developed some streaks of white hair. I actually do like this look.
Though the one that disturbed me the most was that I was not able to connect with Rose or Thorn. My mind was quiet. While this was a bit of a relief, I wasn't sure if accepting this power was hurting the children.
After an hour of rest I was back to how I was before. I also took that time to talk to Blix about what was happening and about the lost pages. This brought on a story about my past. My parents were not my birth parents and I was gifted a book that I could only read.
Out of fear, my parents burned the book. But I went mad by it's destruction and killed more than 50 people! My master was able to stop me, but he then modified my memory of the whole thing. It makes no sense to me, what happened?
But Blix showed me the pages. I remembered them. I ended up filling up the book with spells and the story of Keres. I wondered what else I wrote in the book. I now have an urge to start rewriting the book. I need to remember and figure out if this will help me defeat Strahd. I need to know what is happening to me!
Events Tying Together
We met with Ireena and Ismark. Ismark would like us to escort his sister, Ireena, to a location as far away from Castle Ravenloft as possible. Upon further conversations with Ireena, we learned that Strahd has marked her twice already. The last time she was almost claimed, but he was interrupted. It seems that it happened the same time that he entered my dreams and saved me from my nightmare.
I still don't know what his intent is, but I feel like I'm going to need to watch myself when Ireena is near. We have both gained his attention for whatever reason. This is going to make things more difficult in the future.
Meeting the One who Recued Me
With some effort, we were able to ‘cleanse’ Lazlo’s house. Unfortunately, the souls of the children Rose & Thorn were not able to pass on.
However, this has brought the attention of the local ruler, Strahd Von Zorovich, to our group. Seeing him has caused me much upset. This is the man from my dreams who stopped the nightmares from causing me more harm! When I finally got the courage to greet him, it seemed that he recognized me. I thought he was just a part of my fevered dream, but I guess I was wrong. How did he enter my dreams?
To add to the complications, it seems that Strahd is the one with the power to hold Rose & Thorn and keep them from passing on.
Plus, now the children don’t want to be left alone. So, it looks like I’m going to have a couple of tag-alongs for now. I hope the others don’t mind.
Nightmares and Spellbooks
My dreams have been strange since we have arrived in Barovia. I have had a repeating nightmare of being choked by a missing spellbook. They have left me very unbalanced. The second time I had this nightmare, a dark haired man appeared and was able to stop the nightmare before it got worse. But I'm not sure if this was any better than the initial nightmare. He stated that I was in his realm and that I belonged to him since I was here before banishing the thing that was haunting my dreams. Who exactly is this man?
