The Mark of the Dark Fae

A Dark Mark is a type of Fae Mark that can only be granted by Dark Fae. This Mark is one of the rarest to see since the Dark Fae are reclusive and like to keep to themselves. Humans marked with the Dark Mark can use Dark Magic, but are also able to use other types of magic if they practise enough. This is a difficult feat and is not often seen.

Why do we avoid the old crone in the woods, you ask? Well, it's very simple. She is evil. Yes, evil!
She's marked by the Dark Faes, so don't you go near her if you value your life, boy!

Just as the Dark Fae are rumoured to be evil, so are the humans who bear their mark. It's untrue that the Dark Fae are naturally malicious nor do they bear any ill intention towards humans. They just like to be left alone.

Sadly, the same cannot be said about humans who have sought out a Dark Fae and have been granted the Dark Mark.
Dark Magic is mostly known for being used for the wrong things. It's capable of much good and useful, but most of the people who seek to get the dark mark do it because they believe it can grant them power.

You ever seen the dark creatures that lurk during the night? Those are surely conjured by her, the old crone!
They roam for people with marks and consume them so that its master can gain power from them!

Dark magic is not evil, but the people who seek it are often power-hungry and willing to do what it takes to get what they want. Therefore, some dark magic seen in the human realms is used with ill intent. The people born with a Dark Mark are also seen in the same light, though they did not choose it themselves. People who inherited the dark mark from a parent are less likely to abuse their powers.

Magic Difficulty

The difficulty of each magic for an individual depends on the Fae Mark they carry. If you look at the Mark Circle (to the right), it's visible to see which marks are the opposite of one another and which are closer than others.
There are 3 types of mark-relationships, which translate into what magic is the easiest and hardest to use.

Mark-relationships

1. Opposite Marks
This is the mark that is on the opposite side of the circle.
The Opposite Mark of Dark is light.

2. Adjacent Marks
These are the marks that are next to the given mark.
The Adjacent Marks of Dark are Earth, Water and Spirit. Spirit counts as an Adjacent Mark for all six of the other marks.

3. Opposite Adjacent Marks
These are the marks that are next to the opposite mark.
The Opposite Adjacent Marks of Dark are Fire and Air.

The Importance of Mark Relationsships

People with the Dark Mark would have an easier time learning and performing spells from Earth, Water and Spirit, than Fire and Air.
It would be nearly impossible to learn spells that require Light Magic without years and years of vigorous training.
