Regent of Darta
Requirements
To be legible for regency, one must be able to prove their superiority and knowledge in the fields of ruling a nation. Sufficient diplomatic training, trade, lawmaking and the like are all expected.
Most regents have also had to prove their connection to the magical world. Either a sign from a god or their own magical abilities can prove one's connection. The Altarian ruling has specified an approval from Tharvah in the form of a successful Cloaking as a sign of the magical connection.
Appointment
The person to rise to the role as regent is firstly the current regent's oldest child. They are trained and well prepared for the role, and it it seldom that the child does not take on the mantle.
If none of the regent's children are able to ascend as a regent themselves, the regent's partner is usually appointed (especially if the partner was the bearer of the current regent's child/ren). If that also isn't an available choice, the regent's siblings are evaluated in order of oldest to youngest.
The coronation ceremony is a big event. The new regent is crowned in a hall full of witnesses, usually held by the former regent together with the Feather Conservator.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of ruling a country is filled with tasks of varying importance and interest. Some examples are collecting taxes; managing diplomatic ties inside Darta as well as other nations; cultivating trade; and looking over the nation's production of resources.
