Silver Feather
The feather is a symbol of strength and growth, as well as hope and freedom. The feather reminds us of the possibility of ascention and lifting ourselves up above the petty and insignificant matters in life so that we can focus upon those things that truly matter such as justice. The feather teaches us faith and hope in ourselves and in the universe.
Feathers represent travel both physically, or traveling with your mind, or spirit. When traveling through your mind, feathers help us to move above and beyond different mental barriers. Feather reminds us to move freely through life, and notice when we need to change the direction we are travelling.
Dark Abilities
Once per a day, you can use the feather for one of the following benefits:Magic Armor
As an action, you can activate the feather to provide a magical barrier around you. Your base AC becomes 13 + your Vigor modifier. The spell ends if you don armor or if you dismiss the spell as an action. You can spend 6 dark to increase the base AC to 16, but your maximum Vigor modifier is reduced to 2.Hush
As an action, you can activate the feather to hush an area. No sound can be created within or pass through a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on you. Any creature or object entirely inside the sphere is immune to thunder damage, and creatures are deafened while entirely inside it. Casting a spell that includes a verbal component is impossible there.Protective Aura
As long as the feather is on your person, you benefit from its protective aura. If an opponent scores a critical hit on you, your vessel regains 2. Additionally, as a reaction, you can activate Reprisal. If a creature hits you with a melee attack, it takes your Vigor modifier as force damage, and you have advantage on your next attack roll against that creature. For every 2 additional dark spent, increase the damage inflicted by 1 (max +5 damage).Manufacturing process
Each feather is created for the person that carries it. The item is fashioned from a natural feather and then dipped into silver. Since they are all hand made and created with a particular individual in mind, their appearance varies greatly. They are frequently fashioned to be worn as jewlery such as a necklace or and earing. It being a pen is another common choice. Once the form of the trinket is designed, it is imbued with magic so that it will help protect the guard.
History
In Egypt, the goddess Ma'at is the god of truth and order. Ma'at was symbolized by the feather. In the depiction of "judgement day", after death the heart would be weighed in comparison to a feather. It was believed if your heart weighs heavier than the feather, there have been too many sins and they would not be accepted into paradise. The Death Guard believes that those who have lived their lives well, with purpose and meaning, will have hearts that are as light as feathers.
Significance
These feathers are associated with freedom, transcendence and communication with spiritual realms.
