Harmonicon of Eternal Dissonance
Kurgan is a devotee of the darker musical arts known as "Necrosonance", "Earthshaker Laments", and "Abyssal Melodies." After numerous bards met grisly fates in his establishment, Kurgan sought a more reliable source of these haunting tunes. His quest led him to the Eldowë Fern Forest, where he acquired the Harmonicon of Eternal Dissonance. This obsidian obelisk, etched with glowing runes, is said to be a conduit to the Man on the Silver Mountain, an enigmatic deity of immense power. The Harmonicon fills the tavern with an unending rotation of guttural roars, shrieking wails, and ponderous beats, each tune a prayer to this elusive god.
To request a specific melody from the Harmonicon, patrons must first pay Kurgan a tribute of 3 gold pieces. In return, Kurgan provides an obsidian shard, a fragment of the Harmonicon itself. The supplicant must then etch the name or essence of the desired melody onto the shard using a quill dipped in special ink. The shard is cast into the Harmonicon's basin, dissolving in a burst of eldritch flame. If the Harmonicon plays the requested tune, it is considered a sign of great portent, a musical divination that could shape destinies and reveal hidden truths. The patron can then expect a divination, fortune, or prophecy to be woven into the haunting strains of the song.
The Harmonicon has become the envy of tavern keepers and musicians across the realms. Many journey to the Jungle Claw solely to witness its dark splendor. As they leave, either awestruck or spiraling into existential crises, Kurgan smirks and takes a swig from his flask of Soulfire Whiskey. For him, the Harmonicon is not just an instrument; it's a testament to the indomitable spirit of Nolavor, a realm where even the music is a savage battle for one's soul.
In the exceedingly rare instance that a patron's requested melody cannot be found within the Harmonicon's vast musical lexicon, the obsidian shard glows a radiant gold instead of dissolving. Acknowledging the uniqueness of the situation, Kurgan refunds the tribute and bestows the golden shard upon the patron. This shard is not just a keepsake; it's a key to untold possibilities. When invoked, it grants the holder a glimpse into the Weave of Fate, offering advantage on a single roll. Moreover, legend has it that some fortunate souls have discovered treasure, magical artifacts, and other valuable curiosities shortly after stumping the Harmonicon. It's as if the Man on the Silver Mountain himself has taken a momentary but potent interest in their destiny.
