Astral Sea
Overview
The Astral Sea is an infinite void of stars and nebulas that is said to contain the astral dominions, homes of the gods. The sea is considered the realm of pure thought and creativity, where thoughts and feelings become reality, if only for a moment. According to legend, it was through this power that the gods shaped the cosmos to their will and the astral dominions were forged.
Astral Dominions
Within the Astral Sea laid the astral dominions, planes separated and unique from the surrounding fundamental plane but which owed their existence to it. Formed from the will of the Astral Sea's inhabitants, the astral dominions were once linked into an intricate network within the World Tree. As a result of the Cataclysm, the formerly bound planes drifted freely in the Astral Sea.There were supposedly many dominions found in the infinite void of the astral sea, though only a few are known:
Keep of the Eternal Sun
The sacred golden keep of Amaunator, the chief deity of the Delvian Pantheon.Gates of the Moon
The home of the moon goddess Selûne consisted of rocky islands that floated on and above a silvery sea, over which the moon waxed and waned constantly.Green Fields
The Green Fields was a place of rest, of lush valleys and hills ruled over by the Earthmother Chauntea, goddess of Autumn and the Harvest. It is said that Pan, the god of Spring, once made his home here with his sister goddess Chauntea before migrating to his home in the Feywilds. The Nine Hells (Formerly)
The Nine Hells, or Baator as its denizens called it, was the home of devils and is ruled by Asmodeus, a former god-turned-archdevil-turned-god-again who was given rulership over the souls of the damned before the effects of the cataclysm, which shattered Baator's layers and spread them throughout the astral sea. This coincided with the creation of the Shadowfell, which became the new home for lost souls unable to pass on to their respective afterlives. The Deep Wilds
The Deep Wilds was a mixture of every type of environment found on the prime material plane, but taken to an otherworldly extreme. It is said to be the home of many primal gods such as Umberlee, Malar, and at one time, Mystra, the goddess of magic, who now floats freely through the astral sea.The Demonweb Pits (Formerly)
The Demonweb Pits was originally a realm ruled by the spider queen, Lolth, before she was cast out of divinity and made a new home in the abyss. The ruined pits now float freely through the astral sea.
