Southern Mottled Venom Toad Poison
Within an isolated, high mountain valley of the Southern Wilds, Drow Elvirim Shadows of The Night of Apopshe, operatives of House Alierma, collect live Southern Mottled Venom Toads and take them back to Isolabirre. There, they cruelly torture the toads, forcing them to secrete deadly poison onto their skin. The poison is carefully collected and distilled, leaving only its most fatal essence. That deadly essence is an ingredient of the Shadows' poison of assassination, called Zhirzpla.

Southern Mottled Venom Toad poison is secreted by the skin and in the saliva of Southern Mottled Venom Toads.
Life & Expiration
Once refined and distilled, Southern Mottled Venom Toad poison is stable and does not deteriorate at normal temperatures.
History & Usage
Everyday use
Southern Mottled Venom Toad poison is collected and used by Shadows of The Night of Apopshe to make a deadly poison called Zhirzpla. Shadows often mix zhirzpla with tree resin and use it to coat darts. Being struck by a dart coated with zhirzpla results in almost immediate paralysis and death within two or three minutes. Dried, it is ground into a fine powder that can be blown into the face of a victim, poured into a drink, sprinkled on food, or burned in incense or thrown into a fire. A tiny amount (as much as can be lifted on the point of a needle) of zhirzpla is fatal. There is no antidote.
Hazards
Catching and collecting Southern Mottled Venom Toads and collecting their poison is extremely hazardous, and every year Shadows die in the attempt. The only habitat of the toads is in a high mountain valley of the Southern Wilds, an area where Orkrim, Elvirim, and Okkurim may be encountered, all of which are hostile to the Drow. In addition, even touching the toads is invariably fatal, and they will actively try to bite (which is also invariably fatal) when hunting for food or when disturbed. The Shadows have developed equipment and techniques for collecting the toads and their poison without handling them, but despite those protective measures, fatalities occur through accidental poisoning, and some Shadows are lost to attacks or accidents while traveling to and from the habitat of the toads.
