Vriess is an overweight man with a decent level of physical strength but lacking visible muscles. He has bushy eyebrows, dark circles under his eyes, and an unkempt circle beard. His hair is long and unkempt, dark brown in color, and he has pale white skin with blemishes. Vriess's eyes are amber in color.

Personal history
Vriess had always been fascinated with the unknown, especially when it came to the existence of magic. When he arrived in Dessend and learned of the possibility of harnessing magic, he made it his life's mission to find a way to access it. He sought out knowledge of demons and the dark arts, desperate to make a deal that would grant him the power he so desired.
After many attempts and countless failed deals, he finally struck a bargain with a demon. In exchange for access to the power of magic, Vriess agreed to share his knowledge of his old world and any future discoveries he made with the demon. This deal provided him with the magical abilities he had always dreamed of, but he soon realized that he needed more funds to fuel his research.
In his eagerness to explore this new world, Vriess entered an audition/competition to become a part of the Legion of Valorhall. He saw this as a way to not only gain the funds he needed but also to seek out new adventures that could provide him with even more knowledge and power. Despite fierce competition, Vriess narrowly took first place in the competition, which awarded him a well-made crossbow in addition to his membership.
Over the next couple of years, Vriess ventured out with the Legion only when his research funds began running low. After his first adventure, which involved assisting a nearby town with a mysterious disease, Vriess realized that he needed a permanent base of operations to conduct his research. He purchased a plot of land and began construction on his laboratory.
During his downtime, he turned to alchemy, making and selling potions to generate a stable income. It was around this time that he took on an unlikely apprentice, a Kobold named Mum. Although many would have scoffed at the idea of a kobold being able to learn the ways of alchemy, Vriess saw potential in Mum and took her under his wing.
Vriess's lust for knowledge and power sometimes led him down a dark path. On one adventure, he captured a couple of kobolds to use as slaves in his laboratory. His actions would eventually lead to his formal removal from the Legion after abandoning his party to die on an adventure. However, his apprentice Mum continued to adventure as part of the Legion, and it was now her adventuring income that covered the cost of Vriess's experiments.
Despite being removed from the Legion, Vriess's thirst for knowledge and power never waned. He continued to sell his potions to other Valorhearts and offer his expertise as an advisor when requested.

Vriess does not recognize any gender for himself and will accept any pronoun presented to him, but he visually presents almost entirely as a male.

Vriess spent the last couple of years adventuring in the Legion of Valorhall but has since retired after using his earnings to construct an alchemy lab. He now creates and sells alchemical products to the Legion and the people of Little Oak Harbor.
Failures & Embarrassments
During an adventure to explore a dwarven ruin, Vriess's party encountered some ghosts that they were not prepared to deal with. After the first of his party members fell, Vriess drank a potion he had prepared that transformed him into mist and allowed him to escape. He was the only one who managed to return to Little Oak Harbor. He was expelled from the Legion for cowardice and was forbidden from ever joining an adventuring party as part of the Legion ever again.

Vriess possesses a wealth of knowledge and exhibits a remarkable aptitude for acquiring new skills. While he tends to be reserved and understated in his demeanor, he communicates effectively. He feels uneasy in social interactions and prefers not to take on leadership roles. They provided each other with companionship and even shared intimate moments together on multiple occasions. However, a critical situation arose where one of their companions tragically lost their life. In that moment, Vriess made the fateful decision to abandon Kuni in order to save himself. This act of betrayal has caused Kuni to harbor intense resentment towards him and fuels her desire for revenge. Meanwhile, Vriess believes that Kuni is no longer alive. While he experiences some guilt, masked by a self-centered mentality of "better you than me," he has dismissed any possibility of reuniting with her due to her presumed demise. Nevertheless, deep down, he still carries a lingering desire to rekindle their past relationship.
