The Silk Fang War
Fought in Gotou 150 years ago, when the emperor of the nation attempted to swallow it's smaller neighbors.
Knowing what the Emperor did to get where he is, many nations rallied together to protect their own territories. It quickly descended into a protracted, murderous, fistfight. But where only one combatant is drunk.
The forces of Gotou crashed down on the coalition, facing early success through the application of superior numbers and judicious force. Their numbers were legion and many accounts describe the endless flood of cerulean uniforms coming forward as if driven by some demonic force, and only stopping when they were all dead.
Coalition commanders nearly came unraveled, but a few notable figures arose and provided cooler heads. By disengaging and only standing to fight when coalition forces had superior numbers, the horde of Gotou lost it's momentum. It grew tired, despondent, and injured. It took several more years to tire it completely, but coalition losses drastically lowered with the new strategy. When the emperor finally had to concede, no one was willing to press for anything more than a white peace. Fearing having to take definitive action against the still considerable forces of Gotou.
Ever since, the neighbors of Gotou have licked their wounds and all of them watch the erratic nation closely. Always ready to mount the defence once again.
