White Eyes Dunes

Located in the southernmost reaches of the vast Kartagis Desert, the White Eyes Dunes are an expansive area known for their striking white sand, which shimmers under the relentless sun. The dunes are characterized by their stark and barren landscape, with only sparse vegetation and occasional rocky outcrops breaking the monotony of the endless sands. The horizon is often blurred by a heat haze, reinforcing the sense of isolation and desolation that pervades this area.

Climate

The climate of the White Eyes Dunes is intensely arid, with daytime temperatures soaring and nights that bring little relief. The air is dry, and water sources are exceedingly rare, making this region a formidable challenge for any traveler or inhabitant.

Mystery of the White Eyes

The dunes are named after a mysterious condition known as "White-Eyes," which affects those who spend too long within its bounds. Legends say that the dunes steal the sight of those who wander them, leaving their eyes a milky white. This condition adds an element of danger and mystique, making the dunes a place of both fear and fascination.

Local Flora and Fauna

Despite the harsh conditions, life finds a way to persist here. Sparse vegetation manages to survive, clinging to life in the inhospitable terrain. Creatures adapted to the extreme desert environment roam the dunes, some nocturnal, emerging only during the cooler nights to hunt and forage.

Cultural Significance

The White Eyes Dunes are steeped in local lore and are considered by many to be cursed. They serve as a natural barrier, deterring conquest and significant settlements due to the harsh conditions and the eerie afflictions associated with the area. The few who choose to traverse the dunes are either daring adventurers, local nomads who know secret paths, or outcasts and exiles braving the unknown.
