The Mummer's Cavalcade

The Mummer's Cavalcade are an entertainer's guild formed in 541 P.U. in Aviere capital of the Untolek Republic by a collection of the most prominent Bards of the time. The Cavalcade sought to improve the working conditions of entertainers across Beregan and to ensure equal and fair pay when performing for the various royal courts and wealthy patrons. Each member of the Cavalcade keeps all coin they earn while busking but pays the guild a percentage of all earnings from large performances and elaborate productions.
Membership into the Mummer's Cavalcade is by invite only and they only accept recognised Bards into their ranks so an individual must have at least shown some promise as an entertainer before being invited to join the guild. The Cavalcade offers acting classes, singing lessons, and all manner of skill workshops to its members, and to interested citizens for a fee of course. An individual member of the guild is expected to assist with the production or perform in at least one grand show a year. This grand show can be a dramatic play performed in a theatre, a comedy on an open stage, a circus act beneath a grand tent, or a musical performance in an impressive hall. Additionally each year on the 25th of Estayn the Cavalcade hosts the Mummer's Recital in Aviere which sees wealthy patrons as well as local citizens flock to the Mummer's Stage to see the show.

Structure

The leader of the Mummer's Cavalcade is called They of Five Masks and they are responsible for directing the largest productions of the Cavalcade. They must also ensure that the guild has enough coin in its bank to put on the Mummer's Recital each year. There is only one They of Five Masks at a time and though their identity is meant to be a secret it is always known within a few days of them taking the position. The They of Five Masks directs five editions of the Mummer's Recital before returning to the ranks of the Principal Troupe.
Beneath the They of Five Masks are the Principal Troupe who are members of the guild who have performed in at least three editions of the Mummer's Recital and have been a member of the guild for at least seven straight years. The Principal Troupe are also responsible for directing and writing travelling regional performances that the Cavalcade performs.
Beneath the Principal Troupe are the Mummer's Cast who make up the majority of members in the guild, they are the Bards who perform in productions across Beregan. All members of the Mummer's Cast have been part of the Cavalcade for at least a year and have performed in at least one major production.
Beneath the Mummer's Cast are the lowly Understudies who have only recently joined the guild and assist those above them in the hierarchy in their performances. Understudies do however receive their training for free and are expected to graduate to the Mummer's Cast within a year.
