Vinrani
The Vinrani are an underworld organisation of loosely affiliated Criminals formed at some point between 268 P.U. and 272 P.U. in Gronyg within the country of Gollaca. The Vinrani quickly spread across Beregan infiltrating the major cities of the continent and creating secret smuggling routes between them. In the years following their initial expansion the Vinrani only continued to spread and they now have a presence in every town and city on the continent. It is rumoured that the Vinrani take a cut of all criminal activities that occur within the settlements they hold influence in, regardless of whether the Criminals involved are part of Vinrani or not.
Members of the Vinrani include all manner of Criminals from simple thieves and smugglers to gang leaders and dangerous assassins. Internal disputes occur frequently in the Vinrani and are settled with their own unique brand of justice with punishments including the removal of fingers and limbs, branding, and in some cases death. Independent Criminals often approach the Vinrani for information on possible scores and on the unfortunate occasions when they need to lay low or leave a settlement undetected. The Vinrani are happy to offer these services to outsiders for a hefty fee and stringent vow of secrecy that few are foolish enough to break.
Structure
The leader of the Vinrani is known as the Burglar Prince and is responsible for overseeing the information network of the organization. The Burglar Prince must also maintain order within the Vinrani through any means necessary ensuring that none betray the secrets that are key to the success of the collective. The identity of the Burglar Prince is a closely guarded secret few if any of their direct subordinates know who they really are.
Beneath the Burglar Prince are the Wrens who direct the efforts of the Vinrani in each of the major cities of Beregan. The Wrens collect the fees from all criminal enterprise within their cities and maintain the smuggling routes to and from the city. The Wrens are also responsible for dispensing the punishments for traitors and spies within the organization.
Beneath the Wrens are the Pigeons who are the full fledged members of the Vinrani. The Pigeons have proven their skills in multiple criminal escapades and were invited by their regional Wren to take the initiation and join the Vinrani proper. Pigeons perform jobs as directed by their Wrens to improve the position of the Vinrani within the region as opposed to seeking personal wealth directly.
Beneath the Pigeons are the Associates who are the mostly unaffiliated Criminals who do the occasional job for the Vinrani or make use of their services. Associates operate independently and are not generally privy to the internal machinations of the Vinrani.
