The Mere Badal Grasslands
A vast grassland spotted with occasional large hills like massive waves at sea, The Mere Badal Grasslands are one of the two noteworthy grasslands of Essterac. Despite its potential as the second major farming region in the Empire, the grasslands are left largely undeveloped, even forgoing the creation of additional roads beyond the Aiteran Road.
Fauna & Flora
There aren't many notable flora or fauna within the grassland. Fauna-wise, the main creature of note is the Grey Bison, a large bison with a grey hide and greater strength than other bison. Though they are calm and tend to avoid fights, when provoked, they can become aggressive and use their strength to kill or chase off most people and monsters. As for notable flora, several flowers can be found scattered throughout the grasslands, some of which have medicinal properties or are used in alchemy.
Natural Resources
There are few known resources in the Mere Badal Grasslands however the horns and hides of the Grey Bisons that wander the grasslands are decently valued.
History
Other than the past two centuries, most of the history of the grassland has been lost to time and the destruction of the Sundering. Of the history that is known, there are two things of note. The first is the numerous disappearances, monster sightings, and horror stories involving the Mere Badal Grasslands. Though it may seem peaceful and safe, the surrounding settlements all have stories of strange monsters glimpsed roaming the grasslands, would-be settlers and those that strayed from the path vanishing with their belongings and camps left undisturbed, and many more like it. Some parents even use the "Monster of Mere Badal" to scare their children into behaving or going to bed early. These comprise most of the early knowledge of the grasslands.
It wasn't until several decades ago that a large ruin was accidentally discovered when one of Soveril's armies was traveling east along the Aiteran Road. Since then the study and exploration, which are still in their initial stages, have led to the belief that there are even more ruins hidden underground.
Tourism
Many often travel through the Mere Badal Grasslands due to the Aiteran Road that crosses it however there are people whose destinations are the grasslands themselves. In most cases these tend to be adventurers looking for monsters to harvest or those looking to explore or discover the ruins and dungeons hidden beneath the area.
