Abyssal

The abyssal language was the language of demons.

Historical Linguistics

It was a form of the Primordial language warped and twisted by the evil of the Abyss.   The primordials had their own language with none of the special qualities of SUPERNAL. The titans and giants adopted a debased version of this language for their own tongue, and Abyssal is a form of PRIMORDIAL warped and twisted by the evil at the heart of the Abyss.   Abyssal is believed to stem from Infernal with influences from Ignan. There are theories that there was a "Proto-Fiendish" language which would become Infernal and Abyssal, but this theory has not held as much sway over the years.   The study of languages is not very popular though, and the Gods are not giving any secrets away in these pursuits -- so there are often conflicting stories of how languages have evolved or came about. The gods often don't care about such pedantry.   Difference between Infernal and Abyssal Both languages have similar text but that doesn’t mean a demon speaking abyssal will be understood by a devil and a devil speaking infernal will be understood by a demon. The written texts may be similar but may not mean the same things in both languages.

Writing System

Abyssal used the Infernal Script or the Barazhad alphabet.

Geographical Distribution

Abyssal language is a language spoken by Demons. We think that all Demons can speak the Abyssal language. Only Demons and Devils can talk about the language. It’s almost true because most Demons can speak the Abyssal language.   Humans do not speak it in the world. The texts are different from one language to another. Primordial Language is used to write. Alphabets are different. One main thing in this Abyssal is it is not a language one can speak. And this is not a common language. But the thoughts are delivered through sounds, and the sound is like a dog barking and some evil sounds.

Phonology

Sound

Lower-ranking demons spoke using sounds like the barking of canines, while the speech of more refined demons sounded like softly droning ocean waves mingled with the violence of a swarm of angry hornets. As with everything involving the tanar'ri, however, their speech was unpredictable, and sometimes an elite balor's words were rougher or a lowly bar-lgura's words smoother.
