Vathras

Vathras was Alison Blaggerd's tutor from the time she was thirteen until she began attending the Birach Conservatory at eighteen and her mentor and accomplice until she left Velprintalar in 1358 DR to join the Nobles of Naught.   Tier, in reading Alison's fortune, described Vathras as a "man with 73 names." In 1202 DR, Vathras used the name Alistair Lowly in Telflamm, where he was a repeat customer of Roge. His top purchase was several Forcecage spell scrolls. He also attempted to buy a scroll of Greater Restoration, but Roge did not have one available.   At some point, Vathras stole a ruby ring with planar magical capabilities (later revealed to be a Ring of Fire Elemental Command) from Daliel Greenthorn.   In the Burned Timeline's 1358 DR, 157 days into the party's adventure, the party intercepted Vathras as he attempted to flee from the Red Wizards of Thay along the Golden Way. At this point he revealed himself to in fact be Wee Jas, stranded on Toril but originally from

Aliases and identities

Tier, in reading Alison's fortune, described Vathras as a "man with 73 names."
  • Vathras
In or before 1349 DR, in Velprintalar, he introduced himself as Vathras to Alison and her father Utho, who engaged him as a tutor for his daughter. Alison knew Vathras primarily by this name throughout their acquaintance; however, since many of their activities together in these years included cons and scams, she understood his identity to be fairly fluid.

Vathras had a fondness for sleeping with washerwomen. He was known to the Simbul in Velprintalar, who generally believed him to be "the fun kind of charlatan." In the Burned Timeline, she appeared genuinely disappointed to learn Vathras had seemingly attempted to brew a highly lethal poison; however, in Alison's acquaintance with him,
  • Alistair Lowly
Sometime before 1202 DR, he used the name Alistair Lowly with the appearance known to Alison in Telflamm, where he was a repeat customer of Roge. His top purchase was several Forcecage spell scrolls. He also attempted to buy a scroll of Greater Restoration, but Roge did not have one available.

Other activities during this visit seem to have included maintaining simultaneous relationships with at least three laundresses (Susan, Blusan, and Trusan) and visiting the Rat Race, from which, after an attempt to pick pockets went awry, he was ejected for groping.

Rachel Mustel was also in Telflamm during this time period, but it is unknown whether she met with Vathras there.
  • Utho Blaggerd
In the Burned Timeline's 1358 DR, he assumed the name of Alison's father in Telflamm to con Imfres's successor. He claimed to be King Utho Blaggerd of the lost kingdom of Oerth in order to persuade the young druid woman to provide him with the herbs he needed to brew a potion he hoped would be capable of killing him. Under the same guise, he apparently tricked or charmed a washerwoman into babysitting the young nephew of a caravan leader, whose identity he then assumed to elude Daliel Greenthorn and the Red Wizards.
  • Unnamed eight-year-old boy
Also in Telflamm during the Burned Timeline's 1358 DR, Vathras impersonated the young nephew of a caravan leader in an attempt to travel safely beyond the reach of Daliel Greenthorn and the Red Wizards of Thay along the Golden Way. The party intercepted him there and, after exposing his disguise to the caravan and finding the real child safe in Telflamm, persuaded him to return with them to the Shiny Change.
