Soul
Description
A soul is present from birth in every sentient species; Monsters, Humans, Fae, and Fairys. (Though Pixies show signs of sentience, they are without souls, and thus are classified instead as fairly sophisticated animals.) The soul is regarded as the very culmination of one's being. The soul allows a creature to perform Magic and feel emotions. Without a soul, a sentient creature is said to be Soulless, an unenviable condition.Magical Uses & Implications
Natural States
The soul has two natural states, and their use varies between the species. In its most common state, the soul is "emulsified" with the blood, miniscule pieces floating throughout but not mixing in entirely, like oil and water. In this form, the blood takes on the color of the soul, resulting in interesting skin tones on the surface. In its other form, the soul fragments gather into a heart-shaped, glowing shape located in the right side of the chest, beside the (anatomical) heart. This can be unnerving to watch, as any colored soul that leaves the bloodstream will be visually indicated by a rapid loss in coloring. In order for any race to perform magic, the soul must be gathered in the aformentioned heart shape. (In rare situations, the soul may gather in a different place. Magic can still be performed in these times.)Traits
Some souls contain Traits, positive aspects of personality that are theorized to deeply affect who someone is inside- or, alternatively, are merely a reflection of what was already there. Humans and Fairys are the only known species that possess traits, and share a pool of seven options. Traits do not affect one's magic, but do color the soul.
