History

Before the rebellion against The Holy Sicatrin Empire, the furthest knowledge of history that the monsters had only contained that of which they knew then: slavery and defeat. All of their history, whatever it may have been, was burned or otherwise stamped out by the Emperor of Fae, and they worked as slaves for ages, not knowing how long their trial would last.
When Aztroc began a rebellion in Prehens, the first monster slaves were freed, and they would never go back. The free men released others, until at long last all families were reunited, never to leave each other again.
During the proceeding period, a time of almost fifty years, most of the monsters could remember starkly their time enslaved by the Empire. Their kingdom, The Kingdom of Monsters became for a time one full of only faintly-covered degeneracy when freedom became the highest ideal. But when their children saw how the Fairys and Humans lived around them, and how their parents lived, many chose to act more like their neighbors than their families. Some parents came along. There was a great healing among the monsters in that time, and many old men were finally able to put their pains to rest.
Over a hundred years later, King Aztroc died and the throne was assumed by King Asgore, his only son. For a time the new king ruled just like his father, with a heavy hand that was quick to dole out punishment, but when a mistake resulted in an innocent man losing his life King Asgore relented and rethought his strategy. The Queen Mother had passed away by then, and so Asgore had no guidance, and could not think of the ideal way to handle crime. During the adolescent years of his reign the monsters in the kingdom suffered under the less scrupulous, who took what they wanted when they desired, and were rarely punished. But soon King Asgore married Toriel, and it was not long after that they adopted a young man named Gaster as their son, a man with a head for numbers and not much emotion. Seeing Asgore's failure, Gaster stepped in as an advisor, and took over the quite-unwanted job of dealing with the crime in the kingdom, whether that be through laws, policing, or direct orders. The kingdom flourished under the rule of these three for some time, and the monsters, most of whom lived within the The Kingdom of Monsters' borders, flourished with it.
