Zhiveshi Marshlands
The Zhiveshi Marshlands (Urkesh: Zhivesh namak, lit. 'drowned swamp') is the region of the Urkesh Highlands west of the Udul Mountains. The region underwent dramatic climatic changes following the Sundering as the coastal waters receded into the newly-formed Sea of Hubris. The once-fertile soil became inhospitable to the plants that had grown there for millennia and famine swept through villages throughout the salt marsh as crops failed and game animals migrated east to the still-fertile areas of the highlands. The orcs followed their game to the east, sparking the first battles for meager resources that would eventually lead to the War of Seven Khans.
The marshlands are now a desolate, dried out wasteland dotted with the ghost-filled ruins of once-thriving settlements. Lacking a real understanding of what caused the calamity, many Urkesh believe the land to be cursed by Gruumsh himself and the descendants of refugees from Zhiveshi are often treated with mistrust by other clans.
