The 4th District

The Fourth District serves an unusual distinction amongst the districts of Doreymos, as the majority of the city's dragon population resides there. Some 760 years prior, when the district was first built, Doreymos began to attract the attention of dragons in the area, many of whom began to attack the city. This, in turn, attracted even more dragons to the city, intent on protecting the fledgling nation. The two groups clashed over the 4th District, who hurriedly tried to protect themselves with magic, walls, and towers, desperately trying to survive the clash of the titans above them. After 100 years of conflict, however, a dragon named Governus the Gold took note of the populace's rapid but clumsy magic development, calling the dragons together to begin peace talks. Arguing that the city deserved a proper education on the dangers and use of magic, he organized a peace treaty between the Metallic and Chromatic dragons, calling to limit their destructive conflicts in order to teach the city about magic properly.

Government

The 4th Embry mostly stays out of the hair of the Scaleborn College, as it turns out ancient, magical creatures the size of small houses are fairly adept at managing the city streets. As such, the Scaleborn College manages most of the governmental tasks in the district, keeping things (mostly) orderly outside of interior disputes. However, even if they're largely independent of the politics of the rest of the city, they do closely cooperate for the most part with the city government, and as such have some say in how the city at large is run.

Defences

"It's a mazelike district with a large standing population of dragons who have a personal investment in its continued existence. Does the district even really need defenses?"
  • Gruk Tuskgnaw, Archpraetor of The Ember Corps
  • Industry & Trade

As a quite literal college district, the biggest export and import of the 4th District is knowledge. Scholars from around the world come to visit and exchange their expertise with those present, and much of the funding for archaeological digs in and around Doreymos comes from the college as well. In addition, books are valued highly here, both of the spell and mundane variety, with there being a large market for everything from historical novels to newly-formulated spells.

    Infrastructure

In order to comply with the needs of the dragon population, the 4th District is highly vertical, with vaulted towers, massive bridges, and wide streets. There is also a large quantity of magical items present, both as a result of the studies of students at the college and from those who wish to make a good impression to or even service the dragons in the area. Most of the industry in the district exists to facilitate this market, and while all the fundamentals can be found here, they frequently pale in comparison to this particular market.

    Architecture

The architecture of the district almost literally grew around the dragons that now call it home. Many buildings are much larger than normally necessary to facilitate the landing and visiting of dragons of most sizes, and the extremely vertical district is spotted with towers where dragons take off and land from. Bridges criss-cross between the towers, and many of the public walkways go through buildings, leading to a knotted, chaotic mess of streets that are difficult to navigate on the best of days without flight. Stonework is quite frequent, albeit largely carved from large single pieces instead of laid out in brickwork, formed out of magic and dragon assistance, with peaked towers dotting the top of almost every building, and plazas on the rest with curated gardens.
