The Ember Corps

Answering directly to The 4th Embry, the Ember Corps are the organized military and official city guard of Doreymos. Tasked with keeping the peace within and without Doreymos, the Corps will take any and all who wish to serve justice for the city, and as a result are one of the largest and most diverse organizations within the city.

Structure

At the top of the Ember Corps, a single Archpraetor commands the entire army, issuing ultimate commands and troop placement while also setting company policy. Serving directly beneath them are 9 Praetors and 1 Demipraetor, who serves as their second in command. Each of the Praetors is assigned to a different district as their regional 'captain,' commanding any number of Units. Each Unit takes direct orders from a Banner, who is commanded by their district's Praetor, and each Unit can contain anywhere from 50-100 Soldiers, who are divided in to squads that vary from 5-10 Soldiers each.

Culture

The Ember Corps genuinely believe that they can and will do everything they can to help others. They serve no individual, instead serving the greater populace of the city, enacting the spirit of the law instead of the letter and exemplifying courage in the face of even the greatest dangers the wide city has to offer. Given a worthy cause, almost any member of the Ember Corps will follow it to the ends of the earth.

Public Agenda

As the eminent defenders of the realm, the Ember Corps operate to serve the people however they can, whether it be helping little old ladies cross the street or fending off encroaching wild animals. They even go so far as to offer reconstruction and emergency evacuation services in the case of any disaster, natural or otherwise.

Formal Alliance

The Ember Corps originally began as the military arm of the 4th Embry, but eventually grew to be semi-sovereign. While technically two separate organizations, and you don't have to be part of one to join the other, their goals for the city are closely aligned, although the Embry does it through politics, and the Corps via martial prowess and public service.

Extreme gratitude

The Ember Corps are frequently the only people the Jhal can rely on to assist with controlling their experiments that escape on to the streets, outside of adventurers, but the Ember Corps aren't too happy to have to divert valuable manpower to stopping a rampaging super-cow for the third time in a month. They still do it, however, as the Jhal rarely do it out of spite.

Economic Ties

The Ember Corps frequently takes out large loans, but also pays them back in a timely manner, meaning that they're a steady source of profit for the Bank. Additionally, as they serve as the guards in many of the districts, the Bank can frequently leverage them to assist them in money-collecting endeavors.

Professional Courtesy

The 4th District is largely barren of any official Ember Corps centers, as the dragons are fairly effective at maintaining order in the district. The Corps appreciates having to patrol one fewer district, but the Scaleborn College is fairly ambivalent about the Corps in return.

Legal Warfare

The Ember Corps are tired of the Clankbang causing property destruction and other magitech accidents wherever they set up. The Clankbang are tired of the Ember Corps arresting them for breaking the laws against blowing up your own laboratory. They don't hate each other, but they definitely don't make each other's jobs easier.

War against Crime

The Corps have bigger fish to fry than a relatively small-time gang, like the Young Dead, but ultimately it's still their job to take care of them. Meanwhile, the Young Dead are fairly dismissive towards the Corps, treating them as if their authority is null and void in their presence.

Open War

It is currently the Ember Corps' job to put down any Wasteling Bones insurrection outside of the third district. As an extension of the 4th Embry, the Ember Corps receive just as much hate as the main body of the organization itself, and while the Corps are ultimately at least a bit sympathetic to the plight of the Bones, any interaction between the two parties ultimately turns to blows.

Open War

Funnily enough, it turns out that a literal demonic cult that has claimed dominance over a district in a megacity doesn't get along with the order of guards with a large Paladin population inside it. While they don't interact much, as the Ember Corps are largely not present in The 1st District, any time a large number of them are in one place, an arrest or battle shortly follows.
