The 5th District

Once one of the primary agricultural districts, the 5th district has slowly become increasingly developed by progresses in biological magic from the Jhal Collective who are based in the district. While it's still a fairly disorganized mess, the housing is primarily built around massive holes in the ground, sub-vertical farming plateaus designed by the Jhal that double as research facilities. With most of the facilities in the district below ground level, the rest of the district is given plenty of room for small, focused buildings, leading to a diverse and fairly short district, with few buildings reaching over two stories tall in the agrarian society.

Government

The 5th District is largely left to its own devices, and while they pay their dues to The 4th Embry they feel no particular loyalty to them, either.

Defences

As most of the valuable resources in the 5th District exist in the Jhal's sinkholes, there's not much in the way of physical defenses. However, a strict series of checkpoints and the general difficulty of vertical scaling makes intrusion in to the sinkhole farms and labs quite difficult for the layman.

Industry & Trade

Dominated by the Jhal, the district is devoted to almost any kind of biological enterprise, whether it be livestock, agriculture, or any sort of naturally-produced enzyme or other chemical. There is a rather small sub-culture of blacksmiths who provide farming implements or livestock supplies, although the metal often has to be carted in from other parts of the city, or even outside of it.

Infrastructure

The 5th District is criss-crossed by a fairly well maintained series of roads, if not strictly well-planned. There are a series of forges and other simple metalworking, but most of the district's economy is linked to agriculture and livestock, with wide roads for carts and plenty of dedicated grassland and watering holes. However, that's not to say that magitech is nowhere to be found. The streets are lit by magitech lamps, and the massive sinkholes that house the hydroponic farms and deeper research centers of the Jhal can be found dotted across the landscape, their roaring water echoing for blocks around.

Architecture

The architecture isn't very grand, but isn't mud huts and thatched rooves either; the houses are often made of stucco, with simple wooden rooves. There is very little in the way of style or substance, with the houses built as needed and expanded as such. The grand architecture is reserved for the Dredges, the sinkholes dotted throughout, with criss-crossing bridges, grand watermills, and extravagant arches built to support the massive structures, often plowing deep in to the earth to depths untouched by light.
