Jhal Collective
A only slightly unhinged collective of individuals, the Jhal Collective specializes in bio-engineering, using alchemy and magic to formulate new species of plant and animal. They're a whole different breed of mad scientist than The Clankbang Foundry, demonstrating a less manic outlook and adopting a far more measured approach. They're responsible for a lot of the curious plant and animal life found around the city, and many of them have even helped to sustain the ever growing populace's food supply. Hummwhirr was even derived from a plant developed by a Jhal hermetic mage. However, even if they're less chaotic than their mechanical counterparts, that is not to say their experiments are any safer; the guards in many districts, especially The 5th District have a specific code for 'Jhal abomination on the loose.' The pros outweigh the cons when dealing with them largely, but it's still best to be wary of any Hermetic Sage approaching with a large sack of gold and no questions asked.
Structure
The Jhal Collective are largely centralized. Their leader, the Prima Sage, is often appointed from within the Hermetic Sages that make up the bulk of the organization, and leads them in decision making and is often permitted to pursue large-scale personal projects as well as approve certain higher-risk projects. Below them are the Hermetic Sages, who perform most of the studies and applications of their work necessary. Hermetic Sages may employ any number of Demi-Sages that may be necessary to perform tasks related to their projects, with other menial tasks then appointed to hired peons.
Culture
A lot of the Sages in the Jhal collective have something of a superiority complex about them; they tend to look down on others who can't do what they do, and while they want to help them, it's more often out of pity than out of a desire to enact good. They will often only ask for help when it's a 'dirty situation' they 'can't be bothered with,' or if they genuinely believe someone to be equal or greater in intelligence than them. They will readily admit defeat on something they don't know or understand, however, and are willing to listen to others who they deem as intelligent or superior in some way.
Public Agenda
The Jhal aim to improve the lives of everyone by creating the perfect life forms for every scenario, whether it's companionship, food, or battle. Whatever biological services you need of them, they can provide them, given enough time and effort.

Extreme gratitude
The Ember Corps are frequently the only people the Jhal can rely on to assist with controlling their experiments that escape on to the streets, outside of adventurers, but the Ember Corps aren't too happy to have to divert valuable manpower to stopping a rampaging super-cow for the third time in a month. They still do it, however, as the Jhal rarely do it out of spite.
Good Terms
The Clankbang Foundry likes the Jhal Collective more than the other way around. They often work together on projects that marry mechanical and biological, or that require large quantities of some substance or device that can only be acquired from the other guild. However, the Clankbang Foundry's chaotic approach to science often rubs Jhal the wrong way, with many labeling them as a 'necessary evil' or a 'nuisance,' while some Clankbangs think that the Jhal are just a tad too stuffy.
Minor Research Agreement
The Jhal and Scaleborn often work together on projects, but as the Jhal primarily specialize in biological magic, not arcane magic, the Scaleborn have less general interest in their studies.
Peace
The Jhal Collective provides food for the city. The 4th Embry largely stays out of the Jhal's hair. The occasional magical beast rampage is well worth the benefit of not having to worry about starving citizens too much.
Wary
The Jhal frequently send relief packages and healers to the territory of the Wasteling Bones. While the Bones usually shun outsiders, they warily accept the support of the Jhal's humanitarian efforts.
Utter Indifference
The Jhal are rarely impacted by the shenanigans of the Young Dead. Their resources are difficult to profit off of, so most Young Dead excursions in to Jhal territory amount to joy rides and cow tipping.
Indifference
The Jhal have a general dislike of the Bank of Doreymos, as they aren't a big fan of their edict of greed, but tolerates them due to their stabilizing influence. The Bank, meanwhile, notes that the Jhal never miss a payment, but rarely take out loans, either.
Strictly Professional
The Jhal feel that the Cult of Ikon is extremely wasteful of the food and creatures they purchase, but they still pay well, so their business relationship continues. The Cult, meanwhile, is always impressed with the quality of Jhal bioengineering.
