Nedra Toxlaryan (Ned-DRUH Tox-LAR-inn)

Dragon Overlord Nedra

That Nedra sure seems to have a chip on her shoulder. I hear she doesn't even leave the castle anymore. She was always a recluse, but it's gotten much worse over these past few years.
— Virdio Citizen

The most recently elected Dragon Overlord, Nedra has long served Ruxan's needs, even before her appointment into the highest ranks of Dragonkind. She comes from an influential family of dragons that has a previous Overlord in the bloodline. Her father also held a position on the Council of Dragons for many years before his passing a few years before Nedra was elected. Now, in a position of power where she could continue to do great things for her world, as her family has done for generations, she has become lazy. Many have pointed out that her motivation for anything has fallen to the wayside. Almost as if she is resigned to doing nothing. Due to this inactivity, a majority of citizens have started to demand a recall or for her to be removed from her position. This would never happen without significant support from the other Overlords, so this call is mostly moot.

Early Years

Nedra was born in 2247 EoD to a noble and powerful family of dragons. An immediate relative in the previous generation served as a Dragon Overlord, so the family had many expectations for the newborn Nedra. Her childhood was chaotic as a result of these expectations. Her father tested her mettle by throwing her into the wilderness and forcing her to survive on her own. While she was under the impression that he had left her to fend for herself, in truth, he always stayed close by to observe her and keep her out of harm's way. The situation for such intervention never appeared, however, as the young girl was quite capable of living on her own. Her hunting and foraging abilities suited her well, and he combat capabilities increased exponentially as she aged. She came into her own as a powerful dragoness, capable of many feats that most chromatic dragons could never even fantasize.
In 2513 EoD, Nedra's mother was murdered as a result of infighting amongst the Council of Dragons. Another member of the Council had a disagreement with her father over a pointless issue. Unfortunately, the other person did not think that the issue was so pointless. When Nedra and her father were out conducting another survival exercise, the council member attacked Nedra's mother at home. When the duo returned, they only found the woman dead on the floor, stabbed through the back of the heart and in her dragonborn form. While father coldly assumed that Nedra would move on from this ordeal like most chromatic dragons would, this would sow the seeds of a disdain for the constant infighting that plagued Draconia.

Forgoing Opportunities

In 2765 EoD, the Green Dragon Overlord rank was left vacant after the previous holder resigned. Nedra at this point was on the cusp of fulfilling all requirements but was still not quite old enough to be considered. Regardless of this setback, she declared her eligibility for the vacated spot. The council took pity on her, mostly due to the lack of candidates that were considered at the time and allowed her to take part in the trials. Her skills stood unmatched. Her inductive reasoning, though process and physical attributes all greatly contributed to the council nearly picking her for the spot. Even in the fighting matches between her and the other candidates she was a cut above the rest of the competition. The only challenger who held a candle to her was a rival of sorts; Aida. Once the examination and voting finished, Nedra stood poised to take the initiation of becoming an Overlord.   However, due to her family's lineage, she knew a small portion of what the ritual on Quirin Umer was. She used a spell to speak with her dead relative that had served on the council previously, finding out the shocking truth as a result. Sickened at the idea that she would have to exterminate her remaining family, the disgusted Nedra withdrew her candidacy before results were confirmed. The council was greatly angered by this idea and very nearly executed her as a result of this "deception". Only the vote of her rival, Aida, saved her life. Perhaps it was a sense of rivalry that caused her to sustain a positive vote, Nedra never found out. She had forfeited her chance to become the Overlord and Aida was instead given the title, and all the troubles that came with it.

Settling Down

After the fiasco of her Overlord candidacy, Nedra took a step back from public life. She focused on herself, rather than the idea of taking care of Ruxan or Chromaticos. Without the stress of managing politics, business and other tolls, her outlook began a steady upward climb. She no longer viewed her contributions as pointless and stopped placing such a weight on her shoulders to fix the problems of the world. While she still cared greatly about the people that she ruled over, she realized that stressing out to such extents would only lead to her eventual death. And such an outcome would only hurt the people she cared such about.   The freedom that she acquired also allowed her the chance to find a mate. Or at least attempt to. In all of her years trying to find someone to settle down with together, she never was successful. Sure, she'd have flings and relationships, but nothing ever prospered into a blooming romance. Unfortunate, as the lack of desire to become Overlord would actually allow her to live a full life together with a family. Even in failure, she kept her head up and only went forward. Her relationship with her father also began to turn around. They came to a mutual understanding of their feelings regarding her mother's death, patching up the sores that had strained their relationship for so long.   At some point near the end of the 3rd Millennia, she and her father began babysitting children from lesser races. Humans, Elves, Tabaxi, any child was welcome within the walls of their home. They took this opportunity to teach the children about the world. The ways of old and the ways of the current day. Things were looking good for Nedra. Then, around 3030 EoD, things turned downward for the dragon once again.

Current Day

No one is quite sure what happened, but Nedra became cold and distant in the 4th Millenia. The positive attitude she had gained decades earlier had vanished and was replaced by a cynical and stoic demeanor. She stopped eating, taking care of herself and lost weight. Many thought that she was sick and dying. The only people who saw any glimpse of the person she used to be were her father and a young Maru Tinderhoof, who was being raised by Nedra and her father after the death of Maru's father, Simeon Tinderhoof.   The death of Nedra's father in 3042 EoD sent her into a depressive spiral. She had lost meaning in her life. She had no clear idea of what to do, or where to go. Her goals had all crumbled and any kind of plan to fix herself was always quickly taken apart before even having an attempt made to put it into action. Many thought that she would decay into the ground at some point during this low of her life. But, in 3044, Nedra shocked everyone when she declared candidacy for the Overlord spot again. Her rival Aida had vanished mysteriously without a trace. This time she went through with the initiation ceremony when she was appointed. Her family was already dead, so what else did she have to lose?   As soon as she was elected, she began passing laws in Ruxan that fundamentally changed the region as a whole. These changes were met with splendor and love from the lower races, as they served to make their lives easier, along with nearly outlawing the slavery of the dragon-races. Pushback was given from the nobles and wealthy, though they fell in line eventually after the Council sided with Nedra in her decisions. After these rapid-fire implementations of policies was finished, Nedra disappeared from public view. She holed herself in Castle Aida and became a hermit, away from prying eyes. Even as the Aeternum Forest threatens to swallow up her region and the growing threat of Gemstone and Ferrous Dragons rises, the Overlord rarely ventures out. The last time the public saw her was at the latest meeting on Quirin Umer. Other than that, her business is conducted by her aids and servants.

Relationship Reasoning

Ralbas holds no ill will towards Nedra. He conducts business with her as usual, much like he does with the other Overlords. Nedra, however, cannot stand Ralbas and despises him. The animosity stems from Ralbas' involvement in the death of Simeon Tinderhoof
