Aerial Crewmember
Ever in the shadow of a dragon and it's rider, the aerial crewmembers are just as vital to the successful maintenance and upkeep of the dragon. The number of a specific crew complement is highly dependent on the class and function of the specific dragon. Most heavyweight dragons will carry a complement of 15 to 20 crew in addition to it's rider, while some of the lightweight breeds may only complement a single crewmember for complex engagements.
In the Continental Air Forces, crewmen are typically trained on all positions for flexibility in personnel deployment. The crewmen of the British Aerial Corps and the French Troupes de las Dragonnes typically receive highly specialized training for their current assignment. The crewmen of the Onyarekowa clans of the Haudenosaunee are also trained broadly to take up any position with any of the clan's dragons.
The position of a crewmember is generally relative to the anatomy of the dragon. Left Wingman, Right Wingman, Midwingman, Top Gunner, Bottom Rigger, etc. typify where they position themselves on the harness while in flight. All crew are trained extensively in rigging and harnessing techniques to ensure they are always safely attached to their dragon.
Gunnery and Artillery positions are typically found behind the wings and below the belly on the fighter class dragons. Lighterweight or Midweight dragons and crews will be used more for logistical supply and messenger duties. These crew tend to focus on related duties. All crew wings are trained in basic medical techniques for both human and dragon injuries.
