British Aerial Corps

The British Aerial Corps was established by Oliver Cromwell during the Commonwealth in 1653. Command of the Aerial Corps was placed initially under the Admiralty and the first engagements of the Corps were in the First Anglo-Dutch War (1652-1654). The Admiralty's reforms under the direction of Robert Blake were established from the outset within the Corps, setting the force on a solid footing from its beginning.    The personnel of the Corps was initially largely drawn from men who had been working with Dragons in the employ of many of the noble families around the country.

The Corps in North America

In 1765, the first British Aerial crews were sent to the Colonies to support the Army in their skirmishes with the French forces and their indigenous allies. While the French had shipped a few of their Armee de l'Aire units across the ocean, most of the dragons were native breeds being deployed by the various indigenous tribes. Following the end of the conflicts, the Aerial Corps began to setup a number of Camps in the Colonies to provide direct military support. One of the Camps was setup on the eastern edge of the Blue Ridge mountain range in a rural area to the west of the town of Culpeper. The Camp was named after the first Crown Governors of the Colony of Virginia, Sir Francis Wyatt.   The rural remove of Camp Wyatt, initially thought to be a perfect spot to establish a training camp in the colonies, turned out to be fairly extreme for the 'civilized' officers of the Corps and especially so for the Army personnel stationed in the Camp. Logistically, the only convenient access to the remote Camp was by Dragon flight and most of the Camp's supplies could only be delivered in Culpeper to be ferried in by the Camp's Dragons. Over the next decade, the conditions in the Camp worsened as the military command frequently forgot to fulfill the camp's requisitions and the personnel in the camp were largely left to their own orders.
